[Phone app] Screen turns off the moment a call is placed. No fixes.

This has been an ongoing issue for a very long time; at least several months or so.
The moment the call is placed when the green call icon is tapped, the screen turns off. The screen has to be turned back on with the power button.

It's not the lock screen, or screen time-out, or screen saver or any display settings.
This has no correlation to the sensor; this occurs while using the phone away from my face and with my hands low on the device, and this occurs with or without a screen protector — so it's not sensing anything. Well, unless fritzed-out sensors are a random thing due to drops and water immersion (except these are pretty damned water proof, seriously).

Neither are there any system settings, Android app settings for the app, nor any GOS exploit protectiom settings, nor in-app settings — nothing anywhere hints at this as a cause or fix.

I can't be the only one experiencing this.

So what's the cause and fix?

I'm scared to consider a data reset to the app because I want to keep all the logs, favorites, and recents.

Find a program like "Sensor Readout" https://f-droid.org/en/packages/de.onyxbits.sensorreadout/ and check if the value being reported by the proximity sensor is changing as expected -- about 1.5" over the front facing camera is the threshold.

Sensor readout apps are all showing a 5cm (≈2 inch) range capacity, which is probably not a test readout. These also show a 0.001(cm?) "power". That's closer to a likely assessment, but I don't know what that "power" represents.

The 5cm range is clearly not a relevant stat because I'd be looking for a representation of something blocking the proximity sensor — IF the sensor is actually the issue that's turning the screen off at the beginning of all calls. The screen cover glass could theoretically be the issue, but that's improbable. I mean, I even ran a display color test to identify any chance of a dirt spec over the sensor by the camera — nothing.
I just don't think the sensor is the issue because the screen shuts off like it's a programmed response exclusively in response to the initiation of an outgoing call.
Someone knows the cause and is probably laughing their evil ass off about this victimizing me.

I can't be the only one experiencing this. This needs the support of everyone else who's victim to this issue.

Andor These sensors only have 2 readings. If you block the sensor and it doesn't switch its reading to 0, then its NOT WORKING.
