Using GrapheneOS as a Secure Wi-Fi AP for ESP32 Sensor Data Collection?

Hi everyone, I’m exploring the idea of using a GrapheneOS device as a secure Wi-Fi access point to collect sensor data from several ESP32 modules in an offline environment. I came across an article that explained how ESP32 can be configured for wireless data transmission and integration with cloud or local servers, which gave me a good foundation for the sensor side of things:

I’ve also been reviewing GrapheneOS's documentation on secure network handling and device isolation, and found a few useful community discussions about tethering and firewall configurations. My main concern is around maintaining privacy and reliability when collecting data without internet access. Has anyone here used GrapheneOS in a similar role? Any recommendations for optimizing battery use, managing multiple ESP32 clients, or securely storing the data collected on the phone itself?

I think it might be good to begin with a clear notion of privacy from what, i.e., a threat model. Many GrapheneOS privacy enhancements are designed to protect against invasive apps sending information to their authors, but it doesn't sound like that would be a concern for your use case, or improving anonymity when a GrapheneOS device moves around making use of network services, which again it's not clear is a problem you have.

Privacy isn't really a knob that can be turned, with "less" at one end and "more" at the other. Having a clear threat model is important.
