Three Graphene OS Inquiries. (App compatibility, Backup, Profile Use, NFC)

Greetings Everyone,

I am not a Graphene OS user yet, but I am very much interested in obtaining a Pixel to start. As stated in the title, I have three inquiries that I was wondering if anyone had an answer for:

I am going on a cruise in a few months, and from prior experience, I know that there exists an app that gives guests access to wifi onboard. Would an app like that be usable on Graphene OS? And would the access to wifi persist through a different profile?
How would I go about backing up the device? I had a family member who lost their device and had to rely on a three-year-old backup, as they did not back up their device to the cloud. I know that pictures can be backed up to the cloud via different cloud storage services, but what about text messages, or other messaging services such as WhatsApp?
I was wondering if anyone had any examples of profile use. As in what apps do you place in a secondary profile as opposed to the main account?
I use NFC payments a lot; however, I was wondering if there were any alternatives, be it devices (smartwatches) or otherwise.

yes, it should

for whatsapp specifically, you could back up directly to google drive or you could use Graphene's built in backup tool

I nominate Garmin Pay (if eligible) especially since you'd be on a cruise and battery life is important in your wearable

I assume this is for privacy reasons if it would need complete access to storage on the device etc. I would create its own profile and just have it enabled there.

actually depending on how this app is implemented, it might act as a device admin and create a work profile. this is different from the user profiles you create. Work profiles are created and managed by a profile management app. In this case it could be that WiFi access app. The work profile would live inside whatever user profile you created. I just wanted to clear up any confusion.

AMEX supports Samsung Pay so you could pick up a Galaxy Watch FE

Pardon, I had an inquiry about Samsung Pay. I have checked around on the forum and have been getting conflicting information as to whether or not Samsung Pay works with GOS. Some say it does, while others say that it does not.

Can you confirm whether or not it works?

Seedvault supports the Roundsync app (https://roundsync.com/) as a SAF provider. Roundsync is an android client for Rclone (https://rclone.org/)

This means it can back up to various cloud providers, SFTP, Dropbox, Google drive, S3 buckets, and so on.

Thanks, and perhaps a weird question, but is it possible to import my contacts, messages and photos into graphene OS when I get my new device?

de0u You've got me there - I've never restored using roundsync, but I've had reliable results using the built-in webdav support and I'm willing to trust it.

bigdata if you are transferring from another android device, simple answer is yes.

To move over contacts, SMS and call history you can use

and transfer photos, other media and documents either via online storage or offline using USB.

I can definitively state that - believe it or not, the Google Pixel Watch with Google Pay will work

AMEX supports Google Pay
Setting up payment through the watch directly will work.

now of course, you tie yourself to google a little tighter for this convenience but you don't have to tinker as much which i personally think is nice considering using samsung pay with a samsung watch on a non samsung phone can be a bit annoying - trust me, the hoops you have to jump through just to get BP monitoring that your galaxay watch is already capable off to show up on your pixel phone is crazy BUT rewarding (you'll have to adb into the watch!!!)
