Airalo: "This app won't work for your device."

A year ago, when traveling, I used Airalo without a problem. Now when I got to install the app in Google Play, I get a message that says: "This app won't work for your device." Does anyone know what's going on?

cb474 I can confirm. This typically occurs when the app developer has enabled Google's Play Integrity API for the app's Play Store entry, which bans the entry from being visible if you're running an OS that does not license Google Mobile Services. It also prevents you from installing it even if you open the Play Store entry from a URL.

It's one of the few times where you'll have to use Aurora Store to install the app. I tested it briefly and Airalo launches without complaints when installed from Aurora. You can contact the app developer and ask them to allow GrapheneOS users to install the app from Play Store.

Hey, while I don't use GrapheneOS (yet) I also encountered this issue with a few apps in the PlayStore.
For example I also can't download the app Lufthansa. I do pass Strong Integrity though, so I'm not sure why Google Play detects a modified device still.

Is that really a new thing now that you can't download some apps if you have a rooted device?

I completely understand your perspective. Being able to download the Airalo app on GrapheneOS through the Play Store would definitely make things easier.
Right now, though, this kind of access is limited due to compatibility and distribution restrictions that are outside our control. Since this falls beyond our scope, the best next step would be to reach out directly to the GrapheneOS support team. They might be able to offer more insight or workarounds specific to their platform.

does it also block installation if you install from aurora store?

for me airalo still works fine on GOS but it has been installed already for some time.

graphme, no, it doesn't block downloads from Aurora Store. Just tested works fine from there.

I've used Airalo last year successfully.
Now when I'm planning to travel again I'm encountering the same issue.
It's using the Google Protect Service verification which always fails and doesn't allow you to login anymore.
Installing it via Aurora instead of Google Play still includes the Google Protect check.

What workarounds are there for getting around the Google Protect Services?

RedPanda I was having the same issue when trying to login with an email but it resolved when I logged in via Google account instead.

RedPanda best workaround is to leave a 1 star play store review and request account deletion in the Airalo web portal. Tell them you disagree with this bs. The esim marketplace is quite crowded. We don't need airalo. We have options. So far a lot of the Airalo competitors work fine on GrapheneOS so F'em, I say.

I just noticed this issue today. I thought it's their June 2026 app update that caused it but turns out they added google play integrity API long ago. My session was just still signed in. Sometime last week the session expired and I'm no longer able to log in. I can of course log in via Vanadium but that's even more clunky than their app. I made a ticket and told them this is a bad app development decision and makes airalo unsuitable for the ever growing cohort of security minded GrapheneOS users. They wouldn't budge so I did the right thing and told them to cancel the account. Drop in the ocean small biz account that turned over less than $100 a month but the message has to be sent.

Nomad works on graphene but the free trial will fail on graphene because they can't fingerprint the device well enough.

Ubigi works well on graphene and is better for business anyway. Switched to Ubigi.
