Its likely the battery in a Pixel 6 fits many other devices, and would have been an off the shelf item when the Pixel 6 was manufactured. If you were to design a battery for a limited run of phones, you could get stuck with an over order of batteries that eventuall fit nothing but a discontinued device. Better just use a generic easily available power source. The turnover of batteries into several different devices would keep the possibility of buying a new ' old' battery low, but not impossible.

Fortunately, this doesn't affect the Pixel 6.

My battery is from February 2022 and shows... 908 cycles !

From what I understand, in order to avoid the risk of the battery heating and catching fire, Google will reduce the capacity and the loading speed of the battery. Does it mean you HAVE to change the battery (or the phone) in order the mitigate the risk, or can you just go on with the new settings ?

Quantum Indeed, I meant the percentage, but is is always good to check the amount of cycles used as well in case of Pixel 6a's.
But your battery health should be fine as far as I can see, I have had 600+ cycles on my girlfriends's 6a, and her battery sits at a 96% capacity, I believe 800-1000 cycles should give people 80% or something, I'm not sure.
But considering the fire hazard of the 6a it might be a good idea to replace the battery sooner than that...

Pocketstar Battery health doesn't work at all on GOS, so people need to look at cycles and just see how the battery performs.

Does the battery health seem to work on her Pixel 6? Guessing there is stock on it?

On Google's site is says:

"Replace your battery
Lithium-ion batteries have a limited number of charge cycles and will eventually need to be replaced. We recommend you replace your battery for:

Pixel 3 through Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel Fold: When it's less than 80% remaining capacity or reaches 800 cycles.
Pixel 8a and later: When it's less than 80% remaining capacity or reaches 1000 cycles.
To know your battery health status, check your battery health and battery capacity."

They say essentially it is best to replace the battery at either 800-1000 cycles (depending on the phone model) or when the capacity reaches 80%.

Quantum I use GrapheneOS latest version on it, you can find the battery specs under settings->system-->device diagnostics->component health->battery status.
I do see an inaccurate manufacturing date (1970) but I do see "22 cycles" and "100% of original battery capacity" on my offline Pixel 6a. (My girlfiend is elsewhere at this moment so I cannot check her 6a, but I believe she had 96% battery health last time I checked)
Under "about phone->battery information I only see a correct manufacturer date (2022) and also 22 cycles, but no health info, so it is best to use the diagnostics tool instead.

So the battery info could be incorrect, that is a shame.
And no, she is not on stock Android, neither is my offline Pixel 6a.

Then my previous info might also be inaccurate considering we might not know the true battery health...
I guess we have to trust the amount of cycles then.
Perhaps the app "CPUinfo might help a little, considering it says "good" but there is no guarantee that might work as well...

Then it is best to go by the thing Google says, wheras it is best to replace the battery at 800-1000 cycles, or in case of the Pixel 6a, 400 cycles to prevent potential fires.

Pocketstar I mean it sucks. I waited so long for the battery health thingy. Cycles do work, and the info you provided on the cycle count is correct(the amount before it should reach around 80%).

Especially the news about the poor battery quality is a big blow to everyone owning a Pixel 6a.
My mom, girlfriend and I have one, I already ordered two new batteries at iFixit, my own battery still has very few cycles, therefore a battery replacement is not required yet.

An interesting read are the bug reports to Google(in the post). Them basically saying its only for pixel 8a and above. One of the only good things now is the pass-through charging. Being able to save maybe a couple of hours of battery usage each time I charge my phone is huge in the long run.

I hope that rather sooner than later better batteries are introduced, like solid state batteries or something like that, at least something that is less prone to catch fire and last longer on a charge.
Other longetivity concerns would be fading OLED screens and blocks on flash being damaged due to wear.

my battery has been struggling massively on a normal pixel 6(not 6a) after 600ish charges it only last 6-7ish hours while having screen off and listening to newpipe videos in background. it also heats up to the point where it hurts to touch anytime i operate it in the sun even with 60 fps limit. really hope to see a fix soon since its only 4 years old

nemowalden That is a real issue indeed, after all, batteries deteriorate faster when heated more, perhaps a phone case that is designed for better cooling might help in the meanwhile, or perhaps a thinner sleeve without cloth inside.
