Unable to connect to WiFi

I'm traveling and have always been able to connect to WiFi until yesterday. Am getting the following message from router,
err::ERR_BLOCKED_BY_PRIVATE_NETWORK_ACCESS_CHECKS.

Tried the following
Changed Use per-connection randomized MAC to Use per-network randomized MAC and also Use device MAC

Changed Private DNS from automatic to off.

Changed Internet Connectivity checks from GrapheneOS server to Standard (Google) server and to Off

Changed Attestation key provisioning from GrapheneOS proxy to Google server

The host here at the hotel said that he rebooted the router several times but I didn't see anyone having to log back in.

My wife's phone connects to the network. Her Pixel 6 Pro is running stock android.

Also tried to connect to my wife's Pixel 6 Pro using WiFi share. My phone did not show up on her phone and quick share via QR code from my phone failed.

Also, my wife's phone is able to connect to cell network while mine shows the network but does not connect.

I've rebooted many times.

Any suggestions? I'd prefer not to reset device (of course) unless I could do so without losing all apps plus without network access I don't see how I could load new software.

dstke Thank goodness I'm not the only one having this problem. I recently am travelling and tried to connect to WiFi at multiple airport and airport lounges in North America since yesterday and I've been getting the same error at 3 of 4 of the captive portals. 2 of them were at lounges of the sane airline. 1 I think connected without trouble, and for the last I simply reloaded the captive portal page by pulling down from the top of the page and the captive portal page loaded and let me through. When I tried the reloading trick at both airline lounges (with same captive portal), it would actually load the captive portal page, I'd accept the agreement, but then I'd be sent back to the same error page. I also tried changing multiple privacy settings in Vanadium with no luck.

Note that none if the WiFi portals required user/pass, just accepting terms.

Just a quick update. I was able to connect to my wife's phone using hot spot tethering so my suspicion is back to the router.
Regarding time zone, I didn't notice at first but eventually I saw that my phone was 13 minutes off from my wife's. After connecting to the internet via tethering time is now synced. I'll see if this effects connecting to the router.

Still not able to connect. Backing up a page after the ERR_BLOCKED message I get the following

The webpage at http://connect.hotspot.mg/mikrotik/index.php could not be loaded because:

Just arrived at another hotel and got the same error message but this was after I was able to connect to wifi at a restaurant. Maybe it's a bug with microtik routers? Just before I got the error message I saw a message saying something along the lines of your time online has expired or exceeded a limit. After that I started getting the error blocked message. I should also note that both hotels have the same type of sign- in page. But weird that I would get the blocked message at the new hotel. Again, my wife's pixel 6 Pro running stock android had no problem connecting to either network.

dstke , FWIW, I've had an issue with a sim blocking hotspotting, which then translated to WiFi not turning on, or rather turning on and then immediately off.

Could this be what you're seeing ?

Likewise, starting today upon my arrival to work, I have been unable to connect to my office's open guest network. This was after I updated my phone over the weekend. I think I occasionally encountered the same "your time has exceeded a limit" type message last week as dstke was encountering, but it didn't inhibit my ability to connect to the wifi.

So I attempt to connect to the open network, and then open the sign in page (notification pops up or I open the network details and select to sign into the network) and am prompted to agree to the terms and conditions on a pop up page. I selected the check mark and click to continue, and then am sent to the error page with the upside down bugdroid and the same error

I'm facing the same issue here at the airport. I'm able to connect on my laptop, but not the phone. I also replaced the connectivity check to Google, but no dice.

I don't think so as I was able to connect at a restaurant and I'm currently connected to wife's phone via WiFi.

To clarify the issue it seems to only happen when connecting to wifi network that has a separate user sign in with username and password. At the first hotel we tried different usernames and passwords but with same error. The Microtik commonality could be coincidental.

turingmachine The portal that worked with trick was hosted by micrometrics, and airline ones that didn't work were hosted by datavalet.

I found a workaround: You need to disconnect any VPN, etc. and turn off the "Always-on VPN" and "Block connections without VPN" settings. When the captive portal pops up, tap on "Use this network as is". Then you can go ahead and open some HTTP site in Vanadium, I always just use http://captive.apple.com because it's easy to remember. Then you should be redirected to the captive portal, and you should be able to interact with it normally. Completing the captive portal should establish a normal, working connection.
After that you can turn your VPN back on. I would set the MAC address randomization to per-network for Hotsplots until this issue gets fixed. Otherwise you're gonna have to do this every time you reconnect.

Andromxda Thanks for suggestion. I don't have Always-on VPN so unfortunately this workaround doesn't work for me. I had tried Using Network As-Is after refreshing portal page. No dice. I turned off Netguard too, still no dice.

turingmachine Did you try to access the captive portal from Vanadium or another browser, instead of the popup (which uses the system WebView and currently appears to be broken)?

Edit: this should be fixed in Vanadium Config version 101, which is now available in the beta channel.

Go to chrome://flags and turn off Local Network Checks.

Andromxda So dumb of me, I told myself to try at airport connections, but forgot... It worked on Firefox. Thanks for that.

Vanadium Config 101 should resolve this for the system captive portal handling by disabling the Local Network Checks feature for it. That never should have been enabled for the WebView, it was a mistake.
