Publishing the source code does not make something open source. A big part of the value of open source is that other people can freely take the code and start a new project based upon it. The licensing for futo apps puts significant restrictions on any derivative project.

It is a regular occurrence where the owner of a popular open source software project makes unwanted changes or kills a project and then people set up a new project that itself becomes very popular.. Often the new project includes software developers who contributed code to the original project. Sometimes even the lead developers.

The license used by futo apps makes this very unlikely to ever happen.

It doesn't give the user the open source freedom.
But with the code available, the code can atleast be audited and you can check for any privacy invasive practices. But i agree the licence aint good. The regular old open source licences works just fine and should be used instead.

What do you mean "attacks towards GrapheneOS"? Do you have any references?

I'll leave it up to the project account to discuss that, but a FUTO employee is well known for attacking GrapheneOS and engaging on a site where other users aim to attack GrapheneOS.

I prefer Whisper (https://github.com/woheller69/whisperIME) as an STT. It even understands dialects and works very well all in all.

Michiel I also use SherpaTTS, mainly for Osmand and OrganicMap for voices in French as others usually don't have French voices.

allready some time ago but I will try my luck in this thread.

Now I have this wonderfull SherpaTTS app installed, tested some voices and I have to say, that sounds not bad at all.
The point why I'm writing this is that there is no app on my system working with TTS.
Quik says no tts service available, same with osmand.

So what for are you using TTS and I wonder how did you get it to work?

If you use GBoard, you can have speech-to-text, and it can be private if you disable network access.

gfamily108 it looks like a problem with the os itself. something crashes when i try to setup the TTS engine in the os settings.
