fingerprint unlock slow and unreliable

hello :)
is it just me or the fingerprint unlock feature is slower and not working properly with the Pixel 9 pro compared to older Pixel models?
The fingerprint unlock is working far better and faster in my Pixel 8 and 6 than in my Pixel 9 pro.
Usually in my Pixel 9 pro the fingerprint is not recognized and I have to switch to the PIN code to unlock.
How should I improve the fingerprint recognition with the Pixel 9 pro?

Maybe this is helpful?

Don't register it multiple times. Delete the existing ones, register it once and use it repeatedly after the initial registration while moving around your finger to help train it better. Using it more will train it better. Having it registered multiple times will mean only one gets selected and updated each time you unlock which will make it much worse in the long run. It's a short term hack making it worse in the long run.

And are you using a screen protector? Not all of them are all that good…

I use a screen protector, but it's the same of my Pixel 8, and the Pixel 8 misses never once the fingerprint recognition.

bimbam Pixel 9 Pro uses an ultrasonic fingerprint reader, which is much better but requires not having a screen protector incompatible with ultrasonic. This is almost certainly caused by using a screen protector not properly adapted to ultrasonic fingerprint sensors. Most Pixels use optical scanners meaning visible light frequency rather than ultrasonic scanning which could work through an opaque material if it was compatible with it. The flagship 9th gen Pixels moved to superior tech but you need to avoid incompatible screen protectors.

GrapheneOS Google commissioned ZAGG to develop a screen protectors dedicated to Pixel 9 phones. I use Fusion. The fingerprint reader (Pixel 9 Pro) works very well with ZAGG. I recommend it.

@bimbam - if all else fails, there are some privacy experts who teach how to properly use screen protector in conjunction with fingerprint readers :)

But seriously: invest in ZAGG.

thanks a lot for the explanation. I had read that the fingerprint sensor was improved and I could not understand why in my Pixel is not working properly.
For sure the cause is a not compatible screen protector.
Now I have to decide if I should buy a compatible screen protector or just use without it, since the glass should be pretty durable,

I got an affordable one from Spigen from europe and due to it being "works with google" certified I couldn't detect any problems

problem solved :)
I've bought a new TPU screen protector,
now the Pixel recognizes immediately my fingerprint.
the problem was the screen protector
