Renfe Cercanias App not working any more

I'm using Renfe Cercanias App (com.renfe.renfecercanias) for quite a while. This is an app for local trains in Spain (buying tickets, timetable information, etc.)

Since recently the app requires not only Google Play installed, but also that you are logged in Google Play. Now, with the newest version, when the app starts it calls Google Play which says, that the app isn't compatible with my device. I'm using a Google Pixel 7a with Build Number 2025050700.

I'm using this app outside Spain. Maybe it is geoblocked now? The Renfe app support isn't helping.
I don't have an Google Android device here, so I can't test if this is an issue of GrapheneOS or of not being in Spain. I have an older iPhone here where the iOS equivalent of this app is working perfectly, so no geoblocking.

It is GOS not geo blocking. Install it from some other store, It will most probably work then.

I installed Renfe Cercanias version 3.1.1 from the Aurora Store on a Pixel 5A. That seems to work.

I installed it now from Aurora store. When Google Play is not installed the app says "Something is wrong, Check that Google Play is enabled on your device ..." and then the app is closed

With Google Play installed Google Play pops up and says
"The app installed on your device was not recognized and may harm your device. If you want to continue using this app, search for it on Google Play." (translated from german) and then the app is closed.

Do I miss something?

My setup is simple, everything in the primary/owner profile, play store logged in.

I just checked Aurora Store on my phone. I see that it was using my google account last night for login and not the anonymous account. That might be a difference. You might want to try that.

I other apps now with the same beaviour: Eurowings and ebay. Both are not visible any more in Google Play and therefore Play complains, that my device (Pixel 7a) is incompatible. Meanwhile I resolved the problem with Renfe Cercanias by installing it from Huawei App Gallery, which is officially supported by the Renfe app developors. Since Huawei Phones don't ship any Google integration in their version of Android I guess this version of the app comes without Play integrity check. The Ebay app is easily replaceable with the web version. This leaves the Eurowings app (com.germanwings.android), which is needed for boarding passes and can't be replaced with the web version. I have contacted Eurowings developers.

All of this makes me wonder, which other apps might go this road and declare GrapheneOS as "incompatible" in the future.

Same with me, no matter what I tried I wasn't able to make the Eurowings app to work.
