Car insurance app - 'won't work on your device'

I'm trying to use the Hastings Direct car insurance app (black box monitoring thing). When I go to the Google Play store it says the app won't work on my device. I've used an apk extractor to get it off another phone, but it still won't install. Is there anything I can do to get this running? I don't see why an app that uses GPS + accelerometer shouldn't work.

Zephyrlite On my p7a it installs and works fine. Only thing I can think off is it says "phones must not be previously or currently be rooted" so not sure if you have changed anything to that effect from a standard GOS installation?

Zephyrlite I have my Hastings Direct app installed via Aurora Store and it works just fine.

FWIW, Play Store on the web and on the phone both say it's available for my Pixel 5A. It installs, and starts up without issues, at least up to the point where it wants to create an account or login.

wizoatk And you're running Graphene? That's so weird. It must be something I'm doing on my end. I've got all the Google stuff running so it can't be that. Very strange!

Yes, Build number 2025021000. If you are using a newer device, you'll be on the newer Android 15 flavor. That could be related or it could be something you've done. Another guess might be something like something thinks your phone isn't in the UK and that's why it's not eligible.

Edit. I see that @geni101 is reporting success on a p7a and that's going to be on Android 15. I've had rooted stuff on my Pixel before, but I reflashed stock PixelOS before installing GrapheneOS.

geni101 Absolutely nothing! It's about as bog standard as you can get. So odd.

geni101 As far as I know Pixels don't blow an efuse or anything similar whenever the bootloader is unlocked.

Fxed! Hopefully. Spoofed as a 5a on Aurora store and it installed and seems to run fine.

dc32f0cfe84def651e0e I agree - they're awful. But ... kid has just passed his driving test and is keen for insurance. Usually, we're talking thousands of £££. But this quote is £700 with a box/phone combo. I only need it until he goes to uni later in the year, then I can cancel and switch to something else. I only use the car 2-3 times a week for a short commute, so the financial trade off is compelling.

charles25565 I'm not overly sure I understand what your saying but (and apologies if I'm miss reading or understanding your comment) but the quote of "phones must not be previously or currently be rooted" was copied from the app from google play.

Again I'm not overly sure I understand what your saying regarding having the bootloader unlocked but maybe your getting a unlocked bootloader mixed up with rooting better explained here
