I use VLC, as I prefer to use Open Source software, when possible. I have had no issues with VLC, to date. I have ripped all my movies and tv shows to an external hard drive with Handbrake. When I want to watch them, I use VLC. Also, if you stop watching, when you return and click on the title, VLC will give you the option of continuing when you left off. You do need to be quick, though, as it will only show up for about 10-15 seconds and then it will disappear. Perhaps, this is a setting you can alter, not sure, as I have not looked into it.
