EPA AirNow removed play integrity check after request

If you live in the US, the Environmental Protection Agency has an air-quality app called AirNow. It can notify you if the air quality is bad, but for some reason enabling notifications required passing a play integrity check. When it failed, it gave me an email address to contact the developer. I did, and they fixed the issue! The current version of the app now fully works on GrapheneOS.

areaman Do you know if they stopped using Play integrity API, or if they specifically whitelisted GrapheneOS?

Removed entirely. Here is the reply:

"Thanks for reaching out and for information regarding your device. Our team has reviewed the attestation feature and we have removed the Play Integrity requirement for the push notifications feature in the AirNow app. The update is slowly rolling out to Android devices and should reach you soon if it hasn't already. You can also force the update by reinstalling the app. "
