Aurora Store "Failed to remove .tmp extension"

Hello people,

I need some advice, I tried to install a specific app from the Aurora Store a few times now, it is the "Crypto.com"-app. I now have a error message, it is:

java.lang.Exception: Failed to remove .tmp extension from /data/user/10/com.aurora.store/cache/Downloads/co.mona.android/1208809/base.apk.tmp at com.aurora.store.data.work.a.t(SourceFile:451) at n5.a.p(SourceFile:9) at N5.u.t(SourceFile:22) at n5.a.p(SourceFile:9) at J5.S.run(SourceFile:115) at Q5.i$a.run(SourceFile:4) at Q5.h.run(SourceFile:3) Failed to remove .tmp extension from /data/user/10/com.aurora.store/cache/Downloads/co.mona.android/1208809/base.apk.tmp

It is the only app, which produces this error, no other app on any profile (with Google-Services or without) returns that error message. It comes right after completing the download.

I hope, someone can help and gives us a solution for that problem. Additionally, I would like to know where I can find this folder? I couldn't find it by myself.

Meme_Man Aurora should have access to the folder/file in question, so it wouldn't be a file permission thing. I can't imagine the error has anything to do with GrapheneOS, and you very well could have had the same error on a device running a different OS. I tried checking their issue tracker and couldn't find this error. I did find it in the code after doing a quick search, and I don't see anything helpful there.

I'd try clearing Aurora's storage in Settings > Apps > All apps > Aurora > Storage & cache

I'd first try clearing the Aurara Store's cache:

Settings > Apps > Aurora Store > Storage & cache > Clear cache

You can probably find the Aurora Store cache folder with the Files app:

Files > <triple-bar> > Pixel 6a > Android > data > com.aurora.store > cache

I deleted storage and cache of the Aurora Store, but it do not help... I also have no "cache" directory in com.aurora.store. There ist only "files".

What did you mean with that, you found the error in the source code of the app?

I am wondering, why all other can install the app but not me. Did you tried to install that app?

The error is in Aurora. It triggers when renaming/moving a file doesn't work.

I didn't before my last response. I just tried and the app installed on my phone without trouble.

This is a weird issue. I'm wondering, is your phone's storage full, or do you have a lot of profiles, like over 20 (if I remember correctly)? If you have a lot of profiles, is this one of the newer ones? I'm thinking maybe the file wasn't finished downloading because of lack of space or some other related issue, so when it tries to "move" or "rename" a file that doesn't exist, it throws an inaccurate error instead.

Now I have, but didn't run into your exact issue.

Pixel 5A (i.e. Android 14)
Installed F-Droid from web site
Installed Aurora Store from F-Droid (enabled the two "mandatory" permissions on startup)
Download and install Crypto.com from Aurora Store
Enable Notifications on Crypto.com app (so that I can see error message)
Open Crypto.com, It replies with "Please install from Google Play", and closes.
Uninstall Crypto.com
Install Crypto.com from Google Play
Open Crypto.com, works as expected

Thank you for trying the app on your device. I am still wondering, why it worked normally on other's devices...

I now did this: I removed Aurora from the Google-profile, than I installed F-Droid and Aurora the way you did, wizoatk. Then I gave Aurora full access to the files, enable also access to the obb-folder and I disabled in Aurora the option "remove .apk file after installation". Then I installed it and it was successfull.
And it work but not "as expected" because first, there comes the message, that I must install from Google Play and the app shuts down, I have to spam-tab the Crypto.com-app, then it seems to work (I get the start screen and can register, log in etc.).

I think I can remember, that I already had it installed a few months ago, but deleted it from all profiles, I had the same issues with the need of spam-tapping then. But after removing I couldn't reinstall it until today. So I think, the download/installation issues are related to the removal of the app earlier?

Can I ask you, which version and which version code you had installed of the app? Maybe there is a problem?
And although I disabled the removal of the .apk-file, I can not find it now on the phone.

@other8026: I have still plenty of room in my storage and I have 6 profiles.

Meme_Man I gave Aurora full access to the files

This shouldn't be necessary because the file that can't be renamed/moved is in a folder Aurora already has access to.

Meme_Man I disabled in Aurora the option "remove .apk file after installation". Then I installed it and it was successfull.

Can't imagine this setting would make any difference based on what I saw in the code...

Since the issue is with Aurora not being able to rename a file, I don't think an older version of the app being installed in another profile would make any difference, but you can still try removing the app from other profiles by doing the following from the owner profile: Settings > Apps > All apps > *app name* > *3 dots in top right corner* > uninstall for all users (or something like that)

Sorry, I didn't write it down. I've already deleted f-droid, aurora store, and crypto.com from my phone. If useful, I can reinstall later today.

I don't see any specific need for Aurora to Allow access to Android/obb folder or to
manage all files when installing Crypto.com. I dissallowed both when doing my latest test today.

Thanks for reinstalling to share the informations.
I did the following based on your hints:
From the owner profile, I deleted crypto.com for all and reinstalled it in the Google profile - not successful, it again can't delete the .tmp file.
Then I deleted from the owner profile for all users crypto.com again, Aurora Store, F-Droid and Neo Store. I changed to the Google profile, installed the F-Droid .apk from that profile (not from the owner profile), installed Aurora Store and tried to install crypto.com - not successful. I need to turn off the option, that Aurora wants to remove the .apk after installing, then the app gets installed.
The only difference is, that in the folder path of this error message the "10" changed to "14".

By the way: Is it better to grant any App Store this "Scope" thing so they believe, they have file access or is even that not necessary?

I've never played with storage scopes. I can't imagine adding them into this mystery would help.

Ok. It is really a mystery... I think I have to accept that.
For all who may experience the same issue: Preventing Aurora Store from removing the .apk file after installation seems to be the solution.
