2025041100: Complete Battery Drain, Twice

On the off-chance that this isn't a problem with my Pixel 6, with the 20250411 release, my phone has now entirely discharged twice in less than one day (I woke up at 4 AM both times, glanced at my phone and it was off -- had to plug it in to turn back on and the battery was at 0% each time).

This time around, I copied down some of the information under Battery Usage:

Full charge at 6:48 AM Monday
About 65% charge at midnight
Empty and shut off at 4 AM
Screen time 1 hr 31 min for Monday and 0 for Tuesday (middle of the night and I was asleep)
I had actually swiped up from the home screen and closed all apps prior to going to bed (roughly 10 PM).
By App, battery usage was Google Play 9%, PDF Scanner 5%, Launcher 3%, Messages 2%, Proton Calendar 2%, everything else < 1% and then System Apps 76%.
By System, Mobile Network 67%, Ambient Display 13%, Screen 7% (1 hr 31 min), Camera 5% (4 min), WiFi 5%, and everything else < 1%.
Tapping the Monday chart at the top of Battery Usage gives a bar graph showing the decreasing battery to about that 65% that looks fairly normal. But, tapping the Tuesday chart gives no bar graph at all (with 0 min screen time and no battery usage by either apps or systems).

dregrinfuces I use a Pixel 6 with the 2025041100 release, and didn't encounter such an issue yet. I usually get through a full day (7:30 - 21:00) with 10-20% battery left and around 4h screen on time. I don't use the always on display and battery cycle count is 720.

dregrinfuces dregrinfuces It's very likely caused by your apps and networks. It's unlikely to have anything to do with an OS update.

I didn't even know we could display battery cycle count. But, it's at About Phone > Battery Information. Cycle count = 377.

I regularly charge my phone to 100% in the morning and when I wake up the next morning, it's usually in the 60-70% range.

EDIT: And, looking at my original post, I now see a whopping great grammar error. When I said "my phone has now entirely discharged twice in less than one day," I meant "twice, now, my phone has entirely discharged in less than one day." So, two episodes on two separate days. Not two episodes in one day. Sorry, again.

Running the latest firmware along with a P6P. I've noticed the same thing with my battery, doesn't seem to last as long throughout the day, having to charge it more often. Cycle count here is 373, and ever since the optimization has come out its been always set to 80%, but after this newest firmware update I noticed to did charge to 100% to recalibrate

12 hours after fully charging the phone, my battery is down to 69%. That's about twice my normal battery drain. Launcher has used 16% and Google Play, 13%. The rest are trivial. At the system level, once again, the big drain is Mobile Network at 57%.

Pixel 9 Pro XL (almost brand new)

Significant battery performance degradation since the 2025041100 update. Phone gets considerably warmer just doing basic stuff. Used to be able to charge every other day. Now not quite getting a full day out of it.

I have the same problem of extreme battery discharge on my Pixel 7a, I can't even last half a day, I have to recharge it 1-2 times a day despite my low use of it

I did a factory reset about 2 weeks ago and the problem persists, it's very annoying on a daily basis.

I'm wondering if this has solved itself somehow. Last night, my power usage was much closer to normal than it's been for a while. I still fully charged the phone before going to bed (since I was afraid of it shutting down with a dead battery while I was asleep). But, this morning, the battery is still at 93% (which seems normal). The only change I can remember is an update to the Google Play Store via GOS' AppStore. Maybe the Google Play update fixed this battery drain? There might have been another update in there, but I don't know how to list GOS app updates to check (the OS, itself hasn't updated).

If the battery charge still looks good this evening, I won't charge the phone before going to bed. I'll see how the battery makes it through the night.

As well as spontaneously appearing sometime after the 20250411 release, I've now confirmed that It looks like the battery drain spontaneously fixed itself yesterday or the night before. After fully charging it yesterday morning, this morning my Pixel 6 is at it's normal 71% battery charge. No change to my behavior on the phone. As far as I can see, the only change to the phone before the issue fixed itself was some kind of Google Play update through the GOS AppStore. So, maybe the Play Store had a problem.

I apologize. Yes, the battery drain on my Pixel 6 is now back to normal. But, I was just looking at my phone and I noticed a bulge on the lower right side. I took off the case, and the body is definitely splitting. So, it looks like my battery is physically swelling and probably the cause of all of this (for me). Luckily, the 9a has come out and I can get one from the Google Store in 5 or 6 days (theoretically). I hope the Pixel 6 lasts that long.
