Update :

I was a little slow contacting support because I wanted to try a few more setups to see if they all fail, which they did.

I've talked to Ice support. They stated they've gotten complaints from pixel users. He was sending my case to the tech guys so they'll call me back after some digging. I've given them a precise time when the problem happened. I'll update again after they've contacted me.

Quantum Okay, so Ice is saying that they are aware that (an unspecified amount of) customers are occasionally losing mobile coverage, and that the recommended workaround right now is to reboot one's phone when the issue occurs. And they are saying that they're working on a fix, which is good.

I recommend just turning on and off airplane mode though, as it seems to do the same.

Hi! I am also in Norway, also on ICE, also a P8, and also have this problem ALL the time. I had no idea it was an ICE issue. Like other people have said, we dont know that our connection has dropped until we try to send a text or make a call. I have this problem, at least with very slow SMS connections, a lot more in secondary profile. I tried getting a new sim about 5-6 months ago, and it has not resolved anything. Its a huge problem and I massively worry about this happening in an emergency situation and not being able to call eg. an ambulance

nondigitaldolly I havent heard from Ice yet, I might just send an email asking for an update. I do wanna note this only happens in certain places. Where I used to live it didnt happen, but where im now it does happen.

Quantum For me it happens often, unfortunately:( And especially in secondary profile, it's a massive issue. It's my biggest problem with GOS, because I didn't have this problem on my previous phone. I haven't kept any record of circumstances, and I think I've only seen "Ice+" on the status bar. I'm thinking I should contact Ice too!

nondigitaldolly It didnt happen on GOS with Ice before. Its a "new" thing. Ive already given them a detailed time when it happened and after fixing it. You could contact them too, the more the better I guess. Ill send an email asking for that update. The problem has fucked me a bunch of times

Quantum what is "before" in this case? I only started using GOS this year:) How do you describe the issue to Ice, ie. what information do you include?

What puzzles me is to the extent it's so much worse in secondary profile. The SMS will hang, clog or not go/come through for hours (even if mobile data still works fine)

nondigitaldolly I dont know anything about how it behaves in a second profile.

In my case I called them, and after explaining it they forwarded it to the technical department which reacted out to me. Basically only to confirm they knew about it, and said they were working on it. That was in june of this year.

Not sure if its related, but it started happening after Ice switched from Telenor to Telia as a backup provided if you cant get a good enough connection.

I did explain that im fairly techical. I did try a new sim just to check, but that didnt work. I lay out what i had tried to fix it(without success). What happens when it accures, what it affects, how to temporarily fix it. Also giving times when i saw it happen and when i "fixed" it.

Quantum I see there is an article from october last year about Ice switching to Telia. So around that time. So yeah, ive been living in this hellhole for over a year.

The easiest fix would be to switch provider probably. But then again I like Ice. No way in hell id choose telia or telenor

Lmaaao I just got off the phone with them, and this is exactly, word for word, what happened. He's escalating it to technical department, and I'll hear from them. Did they say it was a problem with Pixel 8 phones specifically?

Just curious, what are your APN settings? All of mine were Ipv4, except one which was Ipv4/Ipv6. So I changed it to only Ipv4 and will see if it helps.

Regarding your other comment, I agree. I love Ice and have been with them since they were Chess. I'll never switch, but this is a huge problem. If it's the Telenor thing that causes it, it explains why I've had this problem since the beginning of getting GOS. But it doesn't explain why the problem is much worse in secondary profile...

The APN settings are automatic, but I did manually change them to the spesified ones on Ice's website. That did fuck all, but I didnt tinker with it outside of that, so maybe youd have some luck trying some other settings out. Do update me if you have any success.

Secondary profile might be android being a buggy mess for features they dont really care about.

Id hate to have to switch to a different pixel phone to fix this. I love my pixel 8. Even just got a new through warranty.

It might just be timing with them switching to telia, but never had any problem on GOS and with my pixel 8 before that time...

Quantum i kind of hope its Ice and not the phone:/ Mine is pretty new and I can't afford a new one.
Unrelated question, how are your MMS? Mine are crazy bad resolution (the ones I send, not the ones I receive), and I can't send GIFs :(
I know most people use Signal etc. with mobile data, and I have that it my second profile. But I keep my main profile clean to reduce distractions when working. I use stock SMS app, because I haven't found another good FOSS SMS app that I trust yet.

And yes, I was stoked to see more of us! I'm doubling down and would def teach others who want to transition. Even my older parents are worried about "Big Tech" these days.

nondigitaldolly Oops saw you mentioned you have a pixel 8 too, my bad. It would be nice having a bigger sample size of norwegains on GOS using Ice.

Worst case maybe switch provider. I do wanna say Elkjøp is doing a good deal on pixel 10 right now. You get 7000kr off if you turn in your used phone, so you could get a new pixel 10 for 4300kr.

Not sure about MMS. Its been a long time since ive sent one, im just used to mms being trash honestly. Also not sent gifs either. Main source of communication is signal.

Why not just flip the users or create a new one for work? I do use the stock sms too. There is probably a bunch of posts on here going into good sms apps to pick up. I just dont have a need for a different one.

Ive kinda given up on teaching others about this. Maybe one day ill find someone like minded enough to teach.

Quantum Because as long as secondary profile is being so glitchy with network cpnnection I can't use that as main/work. I will uodatevin the coming week on the status, and hopefully I hear back from IT. Seeing as the other user never experienced network drops with the same setup I am hopeful we can fix this :)
