Does battery passthrough work at 100%?

Or does battery passthrough only work if charging optimization is set to 80? It seems the most ideal approach would be to activate passthrough whenever the battery hits a charging ceiling -- either the max capacity of the battery, or 80% if that is set. But does this actually happen?

Is there any official @GrapheneOS statement about this? The default behaviour is only at 80 but maybe this has been modified on GOS?

I doubt it. The vast majority of the power-management code is "upstream", meaning it's inherited from AOSP, changes whenever Google wants it to change, and isn't guaranteed to work exactly the same way on different Pixel devices. For there to be an "official GrapheneOS statement" it would arguably be necessary for developers to audit the behavior of both settings for each device for every release.

Meanwhile, there are many battery/power-observation apps that any user can install on personal devices, so interested parties can find out in real time how specific devices running specific releases operate.

Does the shield means that the electricity is passed directly to the components and bypass the battery? I was thinking that this only mean that the charging limit is not prevent further loading.

Never have seen this shield on 100% charge. How long does it take to appear?

Are these new charging options a g..gl or a GrapheneOS feature?

Since a week I have to use my P7a as a 5G modem connected with USB to my router.
It would be great if I could set max. charge to 60% . But I'm affraid, this never will happen.

Interesting, since I only started noticing the shield when I switched on "battery optimization/ limit to 80%). I assumed that had answered my question but it seems some people are seeing apparent passthrough on 100%

no shield icon for me on 100% (pixel 6 pro, last stable build 20250425).
appears immediately on 100% if i enable the 80% option while plugged in to the charger;
but disappears the moment i disable it.

Im not a power expert but it is my understanding that assuming the 100% is infact a physical 100% capacity limit and not some abitrary amount decided by google, that regardless of whether there is a power pass through function the circuit itself will only draw the current that is required by the device load at each particular moment in time, that being just a feature of how power and circuits physically operate.
