Orbot versus a VPN on Pixel8

If I understand things correctly, we don't have to use Orbot with Graphene OS even though it's bundled with it.
Is it as simple as deactivating Orbot, installing a VPN like Proton (which I already have access to) and connecting that way? I don't want to run my own VPN if possible. Main motivation would be to find out whether some apps function better and if the connection itself is more consistent. Seems like Orbot disconnects itself every now and then. Anybody have experience doing this, and what were your results?

It isn't.

So if you are running something that claims to be GrapheneOS but comes with Orbot already installed, maybe it isn't really GrapheneOS and/or maybe it isn't really Orbot. It might be good to check.

A slight clarification: Orbot is not bundled with GrapheneOS.

Orbot is not bundled with GOS. You have to download it and install. Its classed as a proxy server but acts much like a VPN. However, if you already have a VPN, you can't run Orbot simultaneously. I get good speeds on spevific exit nodes. Your mileage may vary.
