I have the same problem since few days. It seems to have happened since I did the update that provides the GOS network location service (either by proxy or with the Apple server) and activated it.

Automatic dark mode switching stopped working for me too, I changed it to set time from location based but it still doesn't change automatically, I have to do it manually.

In my case, after latest updates, in owner profile with location disabled auto switch works as usual. In secondary profile with location enabled not working. In both profiles network location is off.

Enable network location and Wi-Fi scanning if you want it to work reliably for the sunrise/sunset mode. It needs to be able to quickly fetch a location estimate.

I have recently noticed that dark mode switching doesn't work anymore. It's shown as scheduled but it just doesn't switch. I have it based on fixed times rather than sunset/sunrise. I noticed it stopped working when I went abroad (different timezone) but it's still not working since I'm back - and in any case it shouldn't be an issue as it's just based on time and not location/sunset.

Any ideas how to fix it? Night light still turns on at the scheduled time.

Viewpoint0232 Same here, but I haven't changed any timezones, it stopped working on my 6a and then when I got my 9a it still doesn't work. I can replicate this by setting the dark mode activation time a few minutes later and then waiting, then nothing happens, I toggle dark mode but it just makes it permanently dark mode the whole day.

I managed to get it fixed by changing the time a little bit, no idea why

Here's a screenshot of my config that isn't working:

It is using custom time but I am still getting a prompt about enabling the location setting as if that setting is being used
It was supposed to trigger @ 7:45pm but it is showing 8pm and the light mode is still on

My uneducated guess is that something is stuck w/ #1 which is breaking the ability for #2 to work.

Does the problem still exist upstream? I'm on the latest GOS build and still encountering this annoying bug; I'd be quite surprised if Google has let it persist in Pixels and AOSP for over a year!

hemlockiv Google's Pixel OS is not the same thing as AOSP. If Google's implementation of Dark Mode has diverged significantly from what's in AOSP -- perhaps the Google one uses "AI" -- then the AOSP code might be untouched indefinitely.
