Dark Mode: Automatic Activation Does not Work for me

Hi all,

I would like to switch on Dark Mode automatically from dusk til dawn and have set the automatic activation under Settings > Display -> Dark Design accordingly.

But this simply won't work, I can only switch on the Dark Mode manually.

Pixel 9 Pro. btw.

Any idea how to solve this?

Same for me. I have both Night Light and Dark Mode to come up at dusk, but only Night Light works for some reason. I always have to manually toggle Dark Mode.

Both show to be activated "On at sunset".

I think I remember (and I could be remembering wrong here, so keep that in mind) that for this to work you need to have network location enabled, and I guess that would mean you may also need location on?

To make sure you have network location on, check in owner Settings > Location > Location services > Network location.

Check in settings, accessibility, colour and motion, make sure dark mode will not turn off is disabled. If not it may override your other settings, just a thought.

I have the same problem since few days. It seems to have happened since I did the update that provides the GOS network location service (either by proxy or with the Apple server) and activated it.

Automatic dark mode switching stopped working for me too, I changed it to set time from location based but it still doesn't change automatically, I have to do it manually.

In my case, after latest updates, in owner profile with location disabled auto switch works as usual. In secondary profile with location enabled not working. In both profiles network location is off.

Enable network location and Wi-Fi scanning if you want it to work reliably for the sunrise/sunset mode. It needs to be able to quickly fetch a location estimate.
