Fingerprint unlock gone after latest system update

The fingerprint reader on my Pixel 9 seems to have disappeared system wide. It no longer shows up as an option to unlock the phone or to use within apps known to use it (e.g. Bitwarden). I'm on the beta channel.

bbanzai There are reports of the same thing happening with phones running the stock OS after updating to QPR2, so this is not caused by GrapheneOS.

You should mention which version you are on. I guess 2025030700 since you mentioned it here https://discuss.grapheneos.org/d/20606-grapheneos-version-2025030700-released/9

Did you check if your fingerprint is still saved (in settings)?

Snibby Fingerprint is not saved. The entire option to use a fingerprint is completely gone, as if the phone itself lacked a fingerprint reader at the hardware level.

Snibby I'm using a Pixel 9 running build 2025030700 from the beta channel.

bbanzai I hear that someone with the same problem fixed it by turning their phone off fully. Could you try that? I'd try shutting it down, leave it off for a few minutes, then try again.

other8026 Thanks; that was the first thing I tried. Unfortunately, it didn't work.

bbanzai Make sure you've shut it down instead of restarting it. That solved it for someone experiencing the issue.

matchboxbananasynergy I did a full shutdown and left it off for 5-10 mins. No change; fingerprint functions are still completely gone at the system level.

If it doesn't work, do the following:

Reboot the device then unlock, lock, try to use fingerprint, and send full system logs to logs@grapheneos.org along with a link to this post so we know what the logs are for.

matchboxbananasynergy I can try; the problem is it doesn't even allow me to try to use the fingerprint reader. It is as if the OS doesn't even know this phone has a fingerprint reader at all. It immediately prompts me for a pin. Going into settings, all options related to fingerprint unlocking are completely gone.

This happened to me also. My only available unlock method for anything was the passphrase. I changed my phone unlocking option to a pin instead of a long passphrase/passwords on the phone unlock. Once I set a pin and tested it to unlock, the fingerprint option showed back up. I'm not sure why, but you could try that and see if it works

Crane Thanks for the suggestion; I switched from pin to password, and then rebooted the phone. Going back into settings, fingerprint is still completely missing as an option.

Bummer. I just changed the unlock method from a diceware passphrase to a pin and locked the screen. After a couple times of unlocking the phone, it stopped asking for the pin and started asking for the fingerprint. When I went back into settings the saved fingerprints were back. I did have to re-enable the apps that were using it but that's it

Same issue here, on Pixel 9, the fingerprint sensor disappeared from the whole system (not available in the options).
