Todoist (to do list) alternative app

Hello!

I am looking for an alternative way to save and use all my tasks as similar as possible to todoist, but open source and end-to-end encrypted. Todoist is very good to use, also because it syncs through devices and it has a browser version and an android version either.

If an app like this doesn't exists, maybe someone can suggest me a way to set up a server to store the tasks and from which I can sync on my own on my devices. That would be usefull also for calendar, contacts and the password database of KeePass, I believe.

I'm using EteSync paired with Task.org.

I have this set up on phone, and my (Linux) computers. EteSync costs $2/month but it is well worth it. I also use it to sync Calendar and Contacts. There was also a flatpak version that lets you sync Memos in the same setup, but I didn't set that up. I wanted to stay with the .deb version. That requires a separate Memo/Notes sync, but I never bothered. One of these days I might.

$2/months is fine anyways, but I could also buy a server and sync tasks, calendar and contacts from there, right?

Tasks.org is Android only. There is a github issue/discussion about desktop/web version of the app:

An alternative to the EteSync suggestion: If you set up Nextcloud or another CalDAV server, then with the DAVx5 app you can sync your Tasks.org lists with a desktop calendar program like Thunderbird or Outlook. (And you also get calendar and contacts sync too)

Doesn't exactly meet your requirements, but Lunatask may be worth considering. It is end to end encrypted and able to sync across devices. However, it is not open source.

Here is documentation of their encryption on their website, and here is a recent thread on it.

goskm75f That could be a good alternative, even if in the free version there are some limitations.
