The expectation is that drivers will be expected to save your license on your phone.
Knowing that some banking apps are not compatible with GOS and also Google wallet .
What can we expect from GOS to provide this functionality on your phone, presumably your driving license will have ID chip embedded.

LE would be the last people to show it to.
If its not an original document, no matter who endorses the electronic version, it will not be trusted, or believed. Which is why the card document will continue to be produced. This electronic version may be for producing to hire car companies or proof of ID into a venue etc, a short cut to a National ID card in the uk, perhaps...

The UK is following a EU directive to introduce digital identification which make us all have an I'd.
The editorial also states that it'll be used for benifits claims/ id

It sounds like you'll use a government app also the app will have a wallet where you can view and display.
Security will probably be based on banking apps and possibly not allow non Google OS.

So I'll be holding off installing GOS until clarified.

This seems like a perfect storm for loosing your identity in one go, when you leave your phone on a train. Not my idea of using technology wisely

To use any government app a citizen would have to have a UK gov one account. Any app services would be available on a browser without the need for a dedicated app. This is the case with the UK national health service as well.

I don't see how a UK citizen could be forced to have an account with (and accept the terms and conditions of) an American private company in order to use a government service.

Still no answer as to whether there will there will be a problem with GOS access as GOS already has a problem with some banking apps and Google wallet.

I don't see why it is the responsibility of GrapheneOS to be confident of anything here. How can the developers know in advance if the operating system will be compatible with something that is yet to exist?

Plobberfroth The apps you reference use Play Integrity and therefore will not function on any OSes not certified by Google. If the UK app uses Play Integrity, you can expect the same "feature" to render it unusable on GOS.

I don't think any of this matters to you. I'm convinced you've made up your mind on this project and are just trolling at this point.
