With the “Always-on VPN” option, the connection is not established in another profile. Always active is displayed, but there is no connection. This setting works on the owner account without any problems.

The VPN connection can only be established on the second profile if I deactivate the always-on connection (on the second profile) and establish the connection manually.

just in case, you're obviously not using one of those freemium vpns that limits you to a connection from only one device?

mmobder Right. I use the freemium of ProtonVPN, so I can't use it in second profile. Need to set up a different one there. Otherwise, access is blocked cause the VPN always on in main profile blocks internet access as there is no VPN running in second.

The VPN connection is established with the home network. Is the VPN connection that is stored with the owner also used on the other profiles?

Luke Is the VPN connection that is stored with the owner also used on the other profiles?

Each profile has its own independent VPN setup (or not). The owner profile's VPN does not "cover" apps in other profiles. This is by design and is documented.

Every profile, including work profile (which don't feel as separate) have it's own Mac address and connection. If you are connected with VPN on private profile then it's one device and if you try connect at working or other profile without logout on first profile then it's second device to VPN provider.

Luke That is interesting. Are both profiles using the same VPN configuration? Does setting the "Always-on" option from inside the "edit VPN profile" change anything?

      • Luke replied to this.

alfred It is the identical VPN server, but 2 different VPN users.
The always on function only works with the owner profile.

No connection is established on the second profile. As you can see in the video. I can only establish a VPN connection on the second profile if the always on function is deactivated.

        Edit:

alfred Does setting the "Always-on" option from inside the "edit VPN profile" change anything?

        No

alfred Is the message here enough or do I have to submit the bug somewhere for it to be fixed?

Luke I'm not sure I understand what's going on in the video, but I have a faint sense that IPSEC VPN connections have some issues, and also that there may be an Android 15 problem with IPSEC and secondary profiles, e.g., Issue #4201.

It might make sense to add a clear description of what you are seeing as a comment there.
