Find My Device - Supervised Account error?

I'm trying to set up a PebbleBee Bluetooth tracker. After giving Play and FMD the ability to do background scans, I can detect the tracker. But when I try to connect, I get this error.

"To locate pebblebee clip with find my device, upgrade to android 9 or later or change to another Google Account. The app can't be used with a supervised account."

Anyone know what a "Supervised Account" is? Or how to get this working?

It's a variety of Google account that parents or guardians can set up for children who are (in any given jurisdiction) deemed to be too young to download some apps on their own.

Two things to look into:

Are you signed in to a Google account? If so, is there something unusual about it?
On the device, is the PebbleBee app in a Private Space, or work profile, or secondary user profile?

For the foreseeable future, you will likely need to setup and manage these Pebblebee devices from a 2nd phone running the stock OS for full functionality.

de0u I am signed in to a regular Google account. It can access Gmail, maps, Find my device etc. It is my main profile. It isn't a child profile or similar.

I am not using the PebbleBee app. I am using the Google Find My Device app to connect to a tracker. This is the Android equivalent of Apple's AirTags.
