DBurnes Happened to me today. I was unaware of it at the time, but my brother called thus evening and said he was just calling me back. He had multiple calls from me today. I told him I never called, but it was good to hear from him just the same. It also did not show up in my recent calls list.
This doesn't sound like the same thing. In the previous report the device was observed while the call occurred, but it sounds as if in this report though the device was under observation the only evidence is from outside the device.
In theory if Phone #1 calls Phone #2 there should in general be evidence on Phone #1, evidence with Phone #1's carrier, evidence with Phone #2's carrier, and evidence on Phone #2. Hypothetical malware on Phone #1 might suppress or corrupt logging on the device, but in general there should be corroborating evidence in three other places.
If there isn't, e.g., Phone #2 says it received a call but Carrier #2 shows no trace, that would be interesting -- and it would argue that Phone #1 is likely clean.
Overall, a case where Phone #1 is actually observed placing a call is probably not "the same thing" as a situation where the only trace is on Phone #2. Checking with carriers is likely useful if investigating.
