Screen freezes and phone constantly restarts

Hello together,

Background

I bought a brand new Pixel 8 Pro. I used the Web installer to install Graphene OS after updating the stock OS to the lastest version for the most up-to-date firmware. I have quite some experience with installing custom ROMs via command line but chose to use the web installer for the easier and faster route.
The installation went through without any errors. (Great experience and super easy btw. Good job)

Problem

Now after installation, I played around with it a bit, testing some stuff and installing a few FOSS apps from F-Droid and some other apps from Aurora Store. didn't do much yet since I wanted to play around first before transferring data, setting up everything and using it as my new primary phone.

Sadly, the screen freezes at random intervals and the phone will take no input, neither touch nor the physical buttons. The phone restarts itself after a few seconds. The problem occurs at random intervals, even when the phone is in standby. Yesterday it worked for a while and I could use the phone normally. Now again, it happens within a few seconds to minutes after a restart and the phone is unusable.

Question

Has anyone ever experienced such problems and has advice on how to fix it?
I will first try to reset the phone and wipe the data.
If this doesn't help, try a fresh install. (How I do this? Just redo all the steps for the web installer?)
If the problem persists, what is the easiest way (for me with no dev experience) to help out the project and send in a bug report with potential logs?

You could try a factory reset from recovery or from within the OS in Settings. Does more or less the same as a fresh install and is much easier.

If you have not been trying to root, changing things via adb, or disabling system apps it is unlikely to help you. Sounds more like a fault in hardware.

Yeah I just tried a factory reset from within the OS settings. The problem persists, even within the setup assistant where it happened again within seconds. :(

So a fresh install is not even worth it if a factory reset is more or less the same?

Then my last resort is to go back to stock OS, see if the same happens there. If yes, I would send back the phone and get a replacement. If it doesn't happen in the stock OS it seems like it is not a hardware issue and I can't use Graphene which would be a bummer.

Oh and no, I didn't try to root or stuff like that.

Could try a fresh install but its unlikely to be any different. Expect you will see similar issues on stock. This is unlikely to be a GrapheneOS issue. Im not aware of anyone else having similar issues unless it is hardware

Just had something like this happen for the first time KERENEL CRASH phone frozen goes black then rebooted when came back said (Kerenel Crash). Will see if happens again. Hate Android 15

Everybody always hates the latest version, until there's a new version, then they stop hating the previous version and hate the new one instead.

Likely this is more to do with an aversion to change rather than actually hating it.

At the same time I am lucky and unlucky. After reverting to stock OS the problem persists. So it must be an issue of the specific phone. Which is good for me, since I really want to use Graphene and not stock OS.

Having the same issues right now on an 8a that had been running GOS without such problems for months.

I'm not sure, but it feels like there might be some conflicts happening with either webview or some apps using it.

Just a few minutes ago I was using Vanadium while also playing some audio via BBC sounds app. Signal was active in the background. First BBC sounds and vanadium started failing and relaunching, then Signal crashed and when I hit the details button, the log showed for a brief moment, then the black screen and reboot sequence started.

I saved the log after reboot, but I don't see a function to add it in this thread. Is that not possible?

I can reproduce this behaviour, btw.
At the very least, after some minutes of playback, the swipe down menu will become unresponsive, as in, it will open, but tapping anything won't perform that action (BT menu f.e.). After some minutes the actions suddenly will be performed. If you just let it play, it will crash and restart the app after 10 or so minutes.

I thought it was BBC sounds exclusive, but Tidal also makes the pull down menu slow down to a point where it is barely responsive, although it won't crash completely.

This starts to feel like some kind of aosp multimedia/audio issue, showing the worst effects when using BBC Sounds.
