DeletedUser95 for the security benefits it makes a lot of sense to run a VPN. It's just my own VPN at home that I use for that. I discussed the VPN problem some time ago in detail already, but the main point, is that I don't want to trust another party. My home network also has an AdGuard Home instance running with DoH to Quad9. I feel that's the best setup for DNS. I can also monitor my traffic pretty effectively via OPNSense, which would also go to waste if I used some proprietary VPN service. It's just a personal preference and everyone is free to do whatever they want. I for one decided to take control of my digital world and have all relevant ("cloud") services running at home on my own hardware. No raids, no black boxes and no FISA court orders can really harm me in that regard. It has the downside of having to take security into your own hands, but it's not guaranteed any other company would be able to do their job properly either (Lastpass, Fortinet, Cisco, etc.).
