Hello,

if I want to use the DNS from my VPN, do I need to turn off Private DNS or leave it as automatic, in my Phone Settings?

Pretty sure the VPN overrides the Private DNS (I can use Mullvad's check service and it shows me using Mullvad's DNS).
Either way, this ProtonVPN article recommends to disable Private DNS anyway.

Dumdum I'm unsure, because I did research it now in the Forum here and one Mod told that it should be on automatic, like in the Vanadium Settings too.

Dumdum Should I turn off Secure DNS then in Vanadium too?

@Dumdum @DeletedUser34 the private DNS setting will override your VPN's DNS. Not entirely sure if those DNS requests are sent through the tunnel or not, though. I know I read about it but I don't remember well enough, I'll try looking around

A quick test shows that setting my Private DNS to dns.adguard-dns.com will give me a DNS leak on the Mullvad check service, but switching it to Automatic (what I had originally) will, as previously stated, show it as Mullvad DNS. So yes, it overrides if you explicitly set the DNS, but simply having Automatic (the default) does not seem to override the VPN.

When you use VPN it is advised to turn off private DNS because of fingerprinting.

NetRunner88 And what about Secure DNS in Vanadium? Should it be turned off too?
