  • new presidential alert toggle does not work

In my province run by morons, morOntario, AMBER alerts are sent at the presidential alert level. Unless I am misunderstanding the latest release notes despite what it says besides Presidential Alerts cannot be turned off, can now be turned off.

About 5 minutes ago I got a presidential alert for the 5th custody battle shenanigans by idiots living in my province despite that toggle being off.

I want these trash alerts that wake up my family due to drunken idiots to never alert.

Thanks

gosrox This should be resolved for the next release. Alert channel configurations were setting an always_on property overriding the value of the toggle. It's difficult to test how this works in the real world until a real alert is received, although the Canadian alerts all being marked as presidential alerts does make that easier.

GrapheneOS all good, thank you very much GrapheneOS team. I just wasn't sure if we could actually disable them yet or not. The text beside the presidential alert button still says "Cannot be turned off" even though we can now toggle the button.

GrapheneOS now that you mention hardcoded strings overriding user facing settings toggles it has my schizophernia triggered. How do we know other toggles aren't just being faked for user display? Is there a file in the source that holds all of the settings or did AOSP make it inconvenirent and one would need to check every setting and feature for any other shenanigans?

For example I once read on the iOS subreddit even if you disable all icloud and other settings, that Apple still has a backdoor into your phone to remote wipe apps and probably more. The discussion pertained to an app being removed on the app store and some users saying at least they grabbed it before Apple removed it from the store.
