Custom ringtone not working for mobile calls in user profile

In the past week I've encountered a problem where any custom ringtone in the ringtones folder (mp3 and ogg format) won't play when receiving incoming mobile calls (it plays some chime sound instead). But softwares such as whatsapp and signal do play the custom ringtone (both when configured to use default ringtone and also when told specifically to play it). Surprisingly though - I can change the ringtone to any of the builtin ringtones that came with graphene and they do work across the board (mobile, whatsapp, signal, etc).
This fault happens only in the user profile I'm using. When changing to owner or other profiles the custom ringtones work fine across all incoming call technologies (mobile, whatsapp, signal, etc).

To troubleshoot - I tried copying mp3 and ogg files directly to the ringtones folder, as well as importing them from the "phone ringtone" setting - neither helps. When I change profile to anything else - all works flawlessly.

I'm not sure if I broke something or if this is a bug.

I read a solution here before which worked perfectly for me. Setup the custom ringtone on the main profile, head over to other profile and copy and set the same ringtone here (file name must be same).

It will work then.

I'm not sure this is a bug or an intended feature, but that is probably because of the BFU state. Before first unlock, all data is at rest and therefore the system can't access user data. For example if you get a call in BFU, the name won't appear even if it is in your contacts list. So I am thinking that custom ringtones won't be available too, especially in different user profiles... I might be wrong anyways.

It worked perfectly well until last week. Something happened - either something I did or a bug.

As a new gos user I cannot vouch for it working in the past but can say I also am experiencing this behavior. I was able to add the .mp3 file no problem but it will not work in a user profile. The notification and alarm tones I loaded work without a problem.

I've tried two different files and they both fail to work. I downloaded the files a second time but the outcome was the same. Not working

I need to try under the Owner account but haven't, at least not to my memory. Once I do test I will update the post with the results.

jill Thanks for the suggestion but it didn't work for me. I bet some setting or permission is broken on my phone.

Worked for me as well.

Switched back to a standard ringtone in Owner and user profile, deleted custom ringtone, added the file and set the custom ringtone again in Owner, then did the same in user profile and it worked in both Owner and user profile. Checked after a reboot after which it still works. Thanks a lot, that little problem was pretty annoying.

jill For me only the Owner ringtone settings take precedence, so no need to set it up on secondary profiles.

same here, too. Have the same ringtone (same file) on main and user profile. Works on main, but not on user profile. Exactly the same as with OP

For all those having this issue is it only in one specific secondary user profile or do some have it across all the secondary profiles?

If its just one has anyone tried duplicating the offending profile as a new profile and seeif it works? I would try setting the custom ring prior to adding any apps or changing settings in the new profile. Then add apps and change config 9ne thing ata time testing the ring tone as you go. Maybe it will narrow down the cause.

How about those of us, who didn't import contacts to the owner profile? I don't think the workaround described above is acceptable, whether it is actually working or not. I will look into reporting this as a bug if I can figure out how.

I agree it seems like a workaround rather than a solution.
It's quite annoying and personally I would really like it solved.
@hakayova did you ever create an issue on this?

I had the same problem till today. I've tried everything that I found on Graphene discussions but nothing works. But today I've tried something new, pure chance. Once I've chosed the custome ringtone, mp3 or anyother, I try and still not working, like always, but then I've select the option on the top on Ringtones, NO SOUND, and the I tried to call me and SURPRISE, IT WORKS the personal ringtone. I thing its a kind of bug. I hope this works for everyone.

Hi again. I becoming crazy with this problem. I have tried to call me from another phone number and the same problem becomes again. The personalised sound don't work. Then I've been trying diferent options, and nothing, and nothing. But at last I've gone to the contact from the number I've called me and I've went to settings, and select sound, I selected default. Then I tried again and, SURPRISED AGAIN, It sounds the personalised sound. I hope this strange solution will be defitive.
