I see no problems with the current Gallery, File Manager and clock App. If it does not fit your needs you can always install an alternative app. I think it would be a waste for the GOS team to spend their resources on creating their own app for this while their are already plenty of alternatives out there.
GrapheneOS Features

whambam I'm not on GrapheneOS yet. That's why I had this wish for these Apps. I don't think that it would be a waste, only a win win Situation.
The developers have said they are planning on replacing the outdated AOSP apps as they have done with the camera app. See their posts here and here.
As for whether this will happen soon is impossible to say as the developers have limited resources and have recently been focusing on higher priority changes like Android 15 and fixing VPN leaks.

phnx In the Link which you sended, they did say, that they will overhaul in the coming months.

I think replacement apps was the "also be working towards" part of that post, not the "next release" part or the "near future" part.
It may be a while! For example, my hunch is that there isn't a schedule.

de0u I get your point and I thought same. But the "in a few months" in there...

Oh, I see. The second link second link says "begin a major overhaul in a few months". To me that means:
- Overhaul has not begun yet,
- Overhaul will not start for months,
- Overhaul will take a lot of time.
To me that does not sound like "will overhaul in the coming months", which to me sounds like being done "in the coming months". But we'll see!
To my eyes, the priority would be "communication scopes", in order to be able to chose which apps communicate together (IPC).

They are pretty good. They were the actual default apps on real Android too like 10-15 years ago, so high quality, definitely. Still some users have reported issues with them.
The Gallery app makes it easy to accidentally delete the wrong or too many photos. Because the list of galleries and the list of photos in a gallery look just the same, and the confirmation dialog does not tell you what you are about to permanently delete. There has been accidents where users have deleted a whole album instead of just the last photo in an album, because the last photo was used as preview for the whole album. This is pretty bad UI, and could absolutely benefit from an overhaul or being replaced by a better app. Also scrolling direction is wrong compared to currently established standards, leading to some unnecessary cognitive stress.
The SMS app is probably most gravely in need of replacement, as it is even warning about being incompatible with this Android version, or being too old, when you launch it for the first time. This suggests it is just a matter of time before it won't run at all anymore, and would need to be urgently overhauled or replaced anyway. Better do that ahead of time.
The clock app has just been minimally adapted to GrapheneOS' rebooting if inactive policy. Only the default alarm ring tone works, and only if the alarm is set in the owner profile. This leads to much confusion for new users and not being woken up in the morning until one figures out where and how to set the alarm to work.
I think an overhaul would be good for users. But more importantly, it is going to have to happen anyway because of the apps being too old and going out of even the most extended compatibility modes.

Its my opinion that a working GrapheneOS, stable, secure and privacy friendly with working apps that literally work from installation, is all we can and should expect. Anything else is an irrelevance.
The developers of GrapheneOS do a damn fine job that allows me to keep big tech out of my life.

The developers of GrapheneOS can only fix so much but they can't fix stupidity
