unable to use microphone with language apps

Not sure if this is a known issue but I can't find any mention of this. I've installed duolingo/mondly and a couple of other language apps on my newly graphened pixel 7 pro. Doesn't seem to matter if this is in my owner profile or my secondary with google services installed none of these seem able to use the microphone.

Anyone able to offer insight - is this a bug or just a limitation?

User256 Not sure if it will help but you can try installing Google Speech Services if you haven't already. I use Duolingo and all is working on P6.

Sorry i should have said i have also installed speech services, still not working.

you are a king among men (or queen among women), not sure why it didn't seem to work when set as when using the app but giving it blanket permission seemed to do the job. nice

I just now had this problem, and I found a solution. After downloading google speech recognition and synthesis , and enabling microphone permissions on google play services, Duolingo speech exercises still weren't working. So I opened my browser, and pressed the microphone button on the address bar, and a pop-up asking for permissions for google speech to use the microphone came up. After saying "only while using the app", I went back to duolingo, and it works fine! I hope this helps.
