  • Why Do Horizontal Apps Not Use the Full Screen on GrapheneOS?

I’ve noticed that when using certain applications in landscape mode on GrapheneOS, they don't occupy the entire screen space. This seems to affect the overall user experience. Is this a limitation of the OS, the apps themselves, or something else? I’d love to hear your thoughts and any possible solutions!

Could you give us an example of an app that behaves in this way?

So that we can try ourselves and understand exactly what you mean.

yes sure, for example:

  • telegram
  • twitter
  • Google Maps
  • Discord

etc....

sweetnight19 That's not specific to GOS. It's the same across all AOSP based OSs, including the stock Pixel OS.

Pretty sure it's up to the app developers how they handle landscape. Apps like Nextcloud Notes or YouTube for example use the entire screen on my 7 Pro.

      mitex

for example youtube, when are you viewing a video it's full screen, but when you're on feed, it is not full...

sweetnight19 Again, that's not exclusive to GrapheneOS and AFAIK up to app developers.

It seems to me that in Samsung UI they have an option to hide or not the notch, which would be the same as making applications full screen, would it be possible with GOS?

sweetnight19 settings > system > developer options > cutout (in the drawing section) allows you to adjust that, though i can't say with any certainty it will act as you're hoping. probably easier to just search cutout within the setting app tbh.

itsjpb it's interesting but it only works on vertical layout, not in landscape... is it possible to hide the notch?

I am pretty sure this is an app independent problem. Games in landscape mode usually extend their screen to the very edge. Newpipe and Aves libre (FOSS gallery) is another example that I know of.
