I'm still on the fence of switching. I noticed that to avoid a lot of privacy concerning google stuff, alternatives require things to be running at all time excluded from battery optimization.
So for example, syncthing, etesync/davx, nullide's findmydevice, and various apps that use their own push notifications instead of relying on google's more battery-optimized FCM. People also seem to be running VPNs or Orbot at all times, sometimes more than one service simultaneously on multiple profiles.
Also how much does running multiple user profiles drain battery because it appears that a common privacy strategy for installing apps from the Play Store requires at least 1 additional profile in addition to the owner where you would install apps from and you can't turn off the Owner.
Using GrapheneOS's location rerouting instead of Google location also seems to erode battery life.
There also doesn't seem to be adaptive battery and charging on GrapheneOS since these are Google features, not AOSP features.
Given all that, it kind of sounds like GrapheneOS with a privacy focused setup would run very hot and drain battery very quickly, no?
If you share your experience, could you please share your phone model and your battery relevant setup?
I'm on a Pixel 6a. On stock, my battery life has eroded over the last 2 years, but I still have about 24-36 hours of battery life depending on usage. The only time I've had to charge more than once a day is if I'm streaming videos on a VPN for several hours.
