Android 15 Alpha: Setup keeps crashing and can't make it to the home screen

I tried installing the new android 15 based release 2024101600 to my Pixel 8a. The install went well and it started up in the first run setup pages. I get all the way to the end but right after the gestures tutorial and I click Start, it crashes and goes back to the screen prior "Swipe to navigate your phone". Even if I skip the tutorial and go click Start it does the same over and over. Is there a way to forcefully exit the setup somehow and go to the home screen? Is this a known issue with the latest alpha release for the Pixel 8a?

dklawren I reported this crash an hour ago and the GrapheneOS developers are looking into it. I assume the device was running stock OS Android 15 before you flashed to the alpha GrapheneOS release?

Sorry for shouting. It seems that Google's stock PixelOS based on Android 15 is now forcing Factory Reset Protection upon every user who signed in to a Google account on that OS.

dklawren Sorry, I just assumed that this would lock you out of using your device and wanted to warn you. But I just received word from a moderator that you can sideload the release with the fix when it's out.

fid02 Ah well that is positive news. The setup screens from the very beginning have very stern langauage about locking the bootloader before carrying on so I was just following instructions. After a new image is ready for install, is there a process to unlock the bootloader before sideloading?

In the meantime, is there some simple or complicated method to install the beta or stable version to a Pixel phone where the bootloader is locked and cannot be unlocked from within the OS? Or is my only option now is to wait til an updated alpha release is available to sideload?

dklawren No, if you selected to lock OEM during the setup wizard you will have to wait for an updated alpha and then sideload it from recovery, that is the only option, because of signature requirement and rollback prevention. This is a very serious and critical bug that affects everyone who has used stock Android 15 and tries to install any GrapheneOS version, even current stable (or so I heard). So GrapheneOS developers will definitely try to get a fix out very soon, within the next three days I would guess.
