Hi,

I want to use a separate phone only for online banking (an app that authorises transfers). The phone would only be used for this and would therefore be switched off 99% of the time. Is a Pixel6a with Grapheneos a good choice? Or should I go for a Pixel 8a because of the memory tagging extensions?

(The phone would have no Sim card and would only be connected with my wlan.)

Thank you in advance and regards

Ash

ash34 MTE somewhat increases resistance to attacks, and also helps developers uncover bugs that might be exploitable.

If the device will run just one app, that you trust, and will be used only on a network you trust, it's not particularly easy for it to be attacked, compared to devices that run lots of apps and visit lots of web sites. It's not clear to me that the added expense would buy much.

However, the 8 has almost six years of likely support, compared to around 3 for the 6a (source). That's a big difference!

IMHO you should get, if you can, a more recent phone. like the 8a. The 6a is two generations behind it means it would stop receiving updates way before an 8a and the 8a will receive updates until 2030 iirc.
