Special App Access Keeps Resetting To Allow

Like the title says, I keep disabling the settings I want off and every time I restart my device these permissions are re-enabled. Why are these special Apps settings reverting after the device is rebooted?

We'd need a little more information. What special apps are you referring to? What permissions are being reset?

unwat Under Apps you will find "Special Apps Access" there are controls for All Files Access, Modify System Settings" etc. These are the group of settings that reset themselves to allow after I block certain ones. I reset the after I reboot my device.

Same here. I updated to the latest Release yesterday (TD1A.220804.031.2022110600) and at least "All files access" has been reset, no app was allowed any more. But for me the settings stays as it is when rebooting. So I think it has been reset with the update.

These settings have changed:

Wi-Fi control: All to allowed
Install unknown apps: All removed
All files access: All removed

sebastianha Exactly! It's not after every reboot. It's after every two or three that all those settings reset themselves.

sebastianha VPN permissions were also reset, I had to grant it again for WireGuard.

What is the best way to raise attention to this topic here? Should we open a Github issue?

I experience the same. I rebooted and checked the settings, it remained the same. I applied the update and after reboot Special app access changed.
I noticed that at leat two settings hace been overwritten:
All apps are after update set to allow modify wifi
All apps can after update use picture in picture

It happened to me once before. Thanks for noticing. I changed the settings as I had it before, but it is a bit annoying.

[deleted] It is annoying. I reboot my device every morning so I notice it every couple days but always after an update. I don't want apps having All File Access, Modify System Settings, Usage Settings and Wi-Fi Control. I'm now having to check it often. It's a bit time consuming.

And again everything reverted to not being switched the way I set it. WTF?

sebastianha I think so since no one seems to be responding here. It's definitely a security issue if it happens and people don't notice it.

I also noticed that after yesterday update all apps had changed battery settings. All apps that had settings set by me to restricted in background changed settings to optimized.
The change doesn't happen with the reboot but it happened after applying the system update and reboot.

I just did a couple of reboots and nothing was changing. So I assume it is related to updates, not reboots.

sebastianha Alright, so I just updated and reset my special permissions. I'm going to restart my device and see if they reset. I shall return.

sebastianha Just restarted twice and settings stayed the same. This is different than before the update. I'm glad you found out what you did from Daniel on GIT. I can deal with resetting them after an update just not after every two reboots. Thank you again for filling

As answered in the Github issue this is an upstream bug and special permissions are reset after an update. As GrapheneOs updates very often it might have looked like that it is related to reboots.
