Be aware:

This application uses AudD service as a primary Music Recognition API. Please note that AudD service is not free, and you will need a special API token provided by the service to use this application. If you don't have an API token, you can sign up for a trial one.

There is also the option to use the app without a token, but please note that this will significantly restrict the number of daily recognitions that can be performed. Please keep in mind that this behavior is not guaranteed by the service and can be restricted at any time.

    android 15 beta has this out of the box..
    I saw this when i installed android 15 beta on an old device to see what it looks like.. its a pixel phone i use for tests and to satisfy my curiosity.
    of course i swiftly disabled the option as you basically allow google to record your conversations. and its shown there and you have to agree before using it.

    Apparently that is a feature of the google app beta.

    it is a good or perhaps not so good thing you don't have to rely on other apps to extend your attack surface... its up to you and your threat model to answer that.

      i know, me too...keep your friend close and your enemies closer that is what i have sandboxed phones where i can see what they do and offer.

      the most private way is find the origin of the song and go ask the dj/clerk which song is it.

      Shazam.com works without an account.

      Not as fast to open but much more privacy-respecting than using the actual app, and way better than any open-source alternative. Just add the PWA and you're good to go.

              I don't understand the problem really: why not just disable the app (Shazam) and quickly enable it when you need it in settings?
              While disabled it can't collect any data, phone home or communicate with other apps. That's how I set up my "recreational" and "rarely used" apps. Going through hoops to achieve what exactly? Doesn't seem like it's worth it.

                I used Audire. Slow, but works better than Audile.

                  I just tried here, it works in my Brave, with fingerprinting block, agressive tracker & ads blocking, and only first-party cookies allowed.
                  But since Vanadium included content filtering, I don't really use Brave anymore.

                  The less apps you have installed the better. Apps can fingerprint your device, talk to each other, etc, etc. So I try to have as few apps installed as possible. And only the absolutely indispensable privacy-invasive proprietary apps (in my case, WhatsApp).

                        Hb1hf just one thing to add about Brave.
                        It doesn't disable JIT, which is afaik the main vulnerability source for browsers nowadays, desktop or mobile.

                        And, worst thing, if you ever run into Brave Search's captcha, you'll notice it doesn't work without JIT. So they current policy is to stick with JIT, it's not just something they haven't done yet.

                            When I was posting, it wasn't going in Brave but now it works ;)

                            I prefer Brave bc of the extensive and customisable ad and tracking filter lists which blocks close to every annoyances while browsing. ( no coockie banner, ads, anything)
                            Best way for me till now for browsing ( no need to agree to cookie banner for ecample) so sites I browse haven't priviledge collecting anything what they want.
                            PWA's like X, deepseek, reddit or Shazam get just the necessary & I can manually filter out thinks distracting me.

                            For me there's no reason to use Vanadium at all allthough it is more secure.
                            Brave which is more anonymous fits more my use case and I hope they fix JIT bc I don't think Vanadium wants to offer extensive filtering options like brave
