Sam's Club digital card not activating on GrapheneOS

Weird, but I've narrowed it down to GOS. On the Sam's app, you can tap "Activate Card" and it enables the digital membership card for you. After 30mins of trying solutions with an employee there and embarrassingly holding people up to check out, back-and-forth e-mails with tech support, etc etc, I've narrowed it to GOS.

So, when I tap "Activate Card," it errors out and goes, "we hit a snag!" The solution: use any other non-GOS OS. The moment I tried it on another phone, it instantly worked. However, while it shows activated on my other phone (yay), it still isn't showing activated on my GOS phone, which is my daily driver and only one I really use. So I guess the digital card section isn't simply linked to the account?

What on GOS is making it error out on this phone? I've enabled settings to make GOS more compatible with the app and same issue. It's really weird.

ErnestThornhill Is the log above what you were looking for? What I find extremely weird is how I activated it on another phone, yet it's still locked on this one.

I'm not at a Sam's Club, but I just checked my app and ran into the same problem you're having. Ugh.

dregrinfuces Oh, I had a whole embarrassing experience. I'm a new member and filled my grocery cart with normal grocery stuff. I did ScanNGo for it all and when I swiped to pay with a virtual credit card, it said to see the register anyway since it was my first time using that card.

So after 45mins of holding people up and the cashier not knowing anything about it, they just kept insisting that they couldn't manually type my card number in, even though it was right there on my phone for them. It was a disaster and an extremely bad first experience with Sam's.

For those experiencing this, don't forget to report it (somehow) to Sam's. I tried sending them an email, but all I got was a perpetual spinner when I tried submitting it. So, the best I could do is write a negative review on the app with the details.

EDIT: Also, I checked on my wife's Pixel 6 with vanilla Android. Hers works perfectly fine.

Are you installing the app from Aurora or from the Play Store?

What i have done is taking taking a screenshot of the membership card after activation on another phone and i scan the code in the screenshot everytime i go to sams. I dont use their app.

My app is from the Play Store. I've also tried Exploit Protection Compatibility Mode. It didn't help.

They're suggesting that maybe Sam's Club is checking if the phone has an OS certified by Google on it using Play Integrity. It's very possible that that's what's happening.

The logs you shared had nothing of interest that I could find. And even if the Sam's Club app does choose to not work because of this, logs may not be of any help.

edit: I'm changing the title of this discussion because GrapheneOS isn't blocking anything. If the app still isn't working with exploit protection compatibility mode on, then the app may be doing this because of Play Integrity results.

As far as I know, Play Integrity checks are done server-side, and won't show up in logcat. As an example, the Authy app was confirmed to use Play Integrity to block users of non-Google-certified OSs from signing in to their app, but no hint of that showed up in the app logs as far as I could see. The fact that the app log is not saying anything about integrity or root checks doesn't mean that it's not doing that.

I've now tried this inside a Sam's Club. Same problem. I even went up to their Service Desk, walked through the whole process and showed them it not working. They didn't seem to care. Just said to give it a week or two. I do have my physical card and can get in the store that way. Plus, Scan & Go seems to work just fine.
