So, your phone number, however you got it, is linked to a payment method, now I have TWO bits of metadata to search for you, and they will cross reference themselves nicely.
You receive an sms code an a-b transaction from signal, more needless metadata.
Most Signal users think, its only a phone number, no one can see it, what harm can it do.

yeah, but we all flock to the edge of that, I mean GOS w/o Google Services is secure, but it's a nightmare to not being able to watch a yt video or always lurk for non-platform (Play Store) OSS or free or private apps in modern day world? And not being able to use mapping products? I know osmAND exists, and I pay them annual premium to keep them going, but when I want to go somewhere Waze (Google + Israel) wins every time in my book.

And I live in this dilemma world, of mass data scrapping, corporations and govs being them, and me trying to not be a subject of all the data collections, but not being a political dissident (yet, lol).

I was talking to an old friend recently and when I was talking about Firewalla and protecting IDs on phone, he looked at me like I'm looney tooney and make a hilarious joke about tinfoil hats, even though I believed him to be quite progressive on modern world, tech and politics

But concerning youtube you forget that you can run your work profile without Google and still having it in your private space or on a secondary profile.

I use pipepipe for watching youtube. It does not only cut regular ads but also self ads.

Anyway, you can use a messenger like Threema that does not require phone number even on a non-GOS phone thus avoiding Signal.
