  • Are there any plans to bring back native SIP/VOIP support?

I currently use a Google Voice number that I need to ring and notify me. I need to dial out easily. I need SMS and voicemail support.

I'm not all that interested in MySudo and other softphones seem to drain battery. I'd like to port my number over to Twilio and I see that SIP support for the native dialer app were removed. Will this ever be brought back to GOS?

For those that need a reliable phone - what have you been using? I see JMP.chat mentioned quite a bit. How reliable is this compared to Google Voice?

Android 12 deprecates SIP entirely from their Dialer app, both the AOSP Dialer and Google Dialer apps.

I see that SIP support for the native dialer app were removed.

This class was deprecated in API level 31.
android.net.sip.SipManager and associated classes are no longer supported. This was 16 months ago on Android 12.

Will this ever be brought back to GOS?

It will not come back and no plans to do so.
