Can I Edit a File to Control App Startups

Too many Apps start that have no permission from me, even with certain permissions off.

Is there really nothing I can edit to stop this?

angela What do you mean by "Apps start"? Do they show up in recently used apps, in active apps or in cached processes? To stop the last case, you need to install them in a separate user profile or a work profile with freeze feature.

It might be productive to name one of the apps and indicate which phenomena are observed leading to the conclusion that the app is starting after boot. Then it may be possible for somebody to provide insight and advice.

An XMPP app starts upon boot.

I want neither to start. I don't understand why this is so hard or this can't be edited in a file. As someone who uses linux frequently, a lack of control over things like this is frustrating.
