Cannot see gifs and cannot open Instagram links

Recently, I have lost the ability to see gifs (they just show up as black boxes) and when someone sends me an Insta link, every browser says that the connection failed on both profiles. I do not have an Insta account, but both issues showed up at the same time. I'm wondering if there was an update or something. Anyone else having these issues?

i know insta has more or less stopped letting people view links without an account, but i've never gotten that error before.

Me too. Regarding gifs that I send via Messaging app -- I cannot see them! This is happening on send. (I haven't tested to see if I can see an inbound gif. I will check soon.)

I can attach and see jpgs just fine but when I attach an animated gif, the only thing that appears is the x with the circle in it which disappears after I send it. I can send gifs and people can receive and see them but on my end it's just a black/blank area.

Sending gifs works fine via Signal app but not via the Messaging app.

Any ideas? Pixel 6A.

Gifs show up blank in the messages app for me too. Also Pixel 6a, so possibly a device-specific issue? If I tap on them, they are missing/transparent and you can see the conversation behind them. Strangely, they are visible in the notification shade.

I don't think I've ever been able to see gifs in the messages app, nor the gallery app. I would save the gif from messages and try to view in gallery, which doesn't "play" the gif. This is why I ended up downloading the Fossify Gallery app, as it will play the gifs.
