Do y'all use a VPN? If yes, which ones do you recommend?

In many ways it's easier to duck fingerprinting on a computer than it is on a phone. I run Mullvad Browser in Windows Sandbox. On shutdown the entire VM is deleted and on startup a brand new one is created that is just slightly different. Different enough that WebRTC and similar browser techniques will be thrown off.

Currently... NordVPN, ProtonVPN and about 2000 company VPNs. Because I can I use 3-5x multihop configurations.

However, Nord has made my poop list with ads to windows app and social logins. It doesn't appear to be any worse than others for routers and manual configs, but trust has been broken and I won't be renewing when my (3 year) sub expires in March.

treenutz68 If using a VPN, it's best to swap out your DNS Servers from whatever the VPN host uses, to an encrypted DNS referrer, like Cloudflare (1.1.1.1), Quad9 (9.9.9.9) or Adguard (94.140.14.49).

If your VPN is on 100% of the time then there's no point configuring private DNS on your browser, like Brave, or using the private DNS option under Internet settings on your Graphene phone. Your VPN connection will cover it.

Xtreix I'll use commercial VPNs but personally I don't trust them, probably Mullvad being an exception. In much the same way as I wouldn't trust Google's DNS 8.8.8.8.

TrustExecutor I don't always use VPNs. But using Cloudflare for instance is not a unique solution. There are millions of Cloudflare users out there to blend in with.

Proton VPN
Probably Mullvad is the best option, but i got a Black Friday deal.
2$/month for 2 years, for 10 connections.
It's 4.8$ per connection for 2 years. It's really cheap.
I share is with 4 others, 2 connections / user so it comes down to under 10$ for 2 years.
Still better than no VPN.

Gonna second (more like fifty) Mullvad, iVPN, and Proton. One thing I wish would become more commonplace, though, is integrated support for privacy-oriented DNS within VPN apps. It makes your fingerprint stick out so much if you use say Quad9 or ControlD DNS with Mullvad/Proton/iVPN, but this wouldn't be the case if these were offered by default in the VPN's settings. I don't prefer using the VPN's own DNS. Of course this doesn't matter to most VPN users, otherwise they'd just be using Tor or residential proxies.

Onion Can you explain to me factually why cyberghost and nordVPN should be blacklisted? What do they do differently compared to another VPN like mullvad or ivpn?

While proton has served me well, i think soverign decentralised solutions for everything is the way forward.
Web 3, Blockchain, DePIN, Dvpn.
Mass adoption of these technologies is the only way i see out of passing unacceptable levels of control over our autonomy to an irresponsible and self interested minority.
