Just writing here to get someone else's opinion on this. I think that the cpu is good enough and battery sized ok. I am just concerned about 6GB of ram. Future android updates could be too heavy for that. Do you think the phone will get to at least 2026 without lagging and becoming too slow?
I am also asking because gos apparently gives pixels performance boost.

n0body it depends if you are heavy user . I was using 3 GB ram before and was almost OK. But I am light weight user😂. If you game etc so it might be to litle. I would not mind having only 6gb and have one year extra security updates.

The 6a will obviously be sluggish by 2026 but so will any phone be. Today, the 6a performs perfectly for what GOS is designed.

n0body Future android updates could be too heavy for that.

Will see. You can update Android to 13 before GOS installing. It was easy and fast.

spiral I dont agree with the statement that every phone will be sluggish in 4 years. I used my OnePlus 6t from 2018 to 2022 and it worked as good in 2022 if not better then the first year with light custom rom. (I am aware that gos is not custom rom but rather os). I am just worried that 6a will not last that long...

Zoanoid I know that A13 is ok. But what about android in 2025 or 2026? It could be much more demanding for cpu and ram.

n0body the 6a will be fully supported for the term outlined by Google and has been stated by the dev team and as outlined in the documentation under the FAQ on the GrapheneOS site,

In regards to OS as opposed to security updates, if it turns out that GOS can't bump the OS version we will still be supported for that period as a fork for whatever the OS level is when OS support ceases.

I hope this helps clarify everything to assuage any concerns you have.

MetropleX I think that you understood my question completely wrong. I asked for opinion on hardware specs and how will they perform in three to for years from now, and if gos can help to make it a little smother for longer period of time.
And I know about security updates and support and that stuff. Just asking for opinion from other people.

Yeah I guess you and I would define "sluggish" differently

spiral please explain how do you define sluggish...i would really like to know what you meant.

                  n0body
Your question is kind of unanswerable. You're asking if the 6a in four years will be sluggish, but sluggish compared to what? Yes, the 6a will feel generally sluggish compared to most other phones released after it.

A custom ROM matters less than the apps you're running. Are you trying to game, stream, navigate, do-it-all on a four year old phone? It's not going to be a super fun experience compared to a phone released in 2025 or 2026. That much seems obvious.

Does that mean the 6a will be unusable in four years? No - it just depends on how you expect to use your phone in four years. Email/texting/phone will certainly perform just fine.

Look at how photo/video editing capability is progressing on phones. Look at media in general. IG, TikTok.. this sort of thing is a lot more fun on a new-ish phone. It just depends on if you care about that sort of thing.

I plan to keep my 6a for as long as it's kicking, to use it as a home remote for smart devices. I expect that the 6a with GOS will work quite well for such a use case through its life cycle.

spiral Thank you very much now I understand what you meant. Sorry for not specifying my question enough. Very good answer.

Feel free to ask any other questions, of course.
