My flashlight button is grayed out and says "camera in use" but there's no other indication of what it's used for. I can use both front and rear cameras to take pictures but when I try to turn on flash it says "flash/torch is unavailable for this mode". I've tried restarting, changing camera permissions, and even blocking and unblocking camera access but I still can't use the flashlight.

Does anybody know how to fix this?

Chopped7821 When you are told the flashlight can't be used because the camera is in use, is there a green dot or a green oval at the upper right of the screen?

Which build of GrapheneOS are you running, on which device?

      de0u

No green dot and I can use the camera (without flash) no problem.

Chopped7821 Are you using the GrapheneOS Camera app? Have you enabled accessibility permissions for any apps?

          de0u

Yes I'm using the GOS camera app. I installed open camera a while ago but I don't use it. And I revoked camera permissions.

I don't know of any accessibility options that would cause this. I haven't changed accessibility settings that I'm aware of.

Chopped7821 Did you do anything around the time this issue started? Messing around with settings? Although unlikely, an update? You have to give us more to work with.

            yore

It seems like it started when I updated Graphene OS, or while apps were being optimized, but I wasn't paying close attention.

I'm not sure how to test this, though

Have you tried restarting the phone since you encountered this problem?

Does this only occur while using the camera app?

When camera app is open have you tried pressing the arrow top left and then the flashlight icon in the camera settings menu that pops up?

Long press camera APP Symbol. APP Info, then delete cashe and storage... After this, camera don't show the message anymore and flashlight should work

No it's all the time it says "camera in use"

On my 6a, using the GrapheneOS camera, I get that message if the app is using the selfie/video camera on the same side as the display, but I do not get that message when the app is using the rear high-quality camera.

I was hoping that upgrading to Graphene OS 2024082200 would fix this but it did not.

yore Try to force stop it.

I tried that a while ago when I first got the message that my camera was being used

phone-company Maybe you have to do a Hardware research

Do you mean a hardware reset, a hard reset or I have to do research about hardware?

I suspect whatever is going on is unique to your device -- either a configuration issue or a hardware issue -- and thus won't be fixed by updates.

One option might be digging through the system log to see if there are any complaints when you invoke the flashlight. Another option, albeit disruptive, might be a factory reset (followed immediately by testing the flashlight, before installing or configuring anything).

Since the error occurs with new users, will a factory reset affect this issue?

Is it possible to provide links to cases involving new users?
