What's up, good people?
Does anyone know some great books or sources where I can further my little and limited knowledge on how to be more private and secure?
Thanks,

I (and many members of this community) highly recommend Michael Bazzell's books.
Absolutely. I've read the Mobile Devices book a couple of times.
ErnestThornhill I (and many members of this community) highly recommend Michael Bazzell's books.
Can you please write a few sentences why you recommend him?
How is the technical level? Does he mention GrapheneOS? What other tools he mentions?
For me, I have been recently very interested in reading
Extreme Privacy Mobile Devices is okay. It walks the reader through setting up GrapheneOS with the apps that Inteltechniques recommends. I disagree with their recommendation of using F-Droid and Aurora Store, and their recommendation of falling back to downloading APK files from apkmirror.com, which could be a huge privacy issue if an APK is not the APK of a genuine app but a modified one.
It walks the reader through how to get a SIM without providing identifying information (US residents only), VoIP setup with Twilio, Telnyx, voip.ms and Mysudo and setting up ProtonVPN. And some other stuff. I think the book is overall okay if these topics are what you want/need to read about.
I used the book as a guide on how to set up GrapheneOS when I first got a Pixel phone, but it wasn't really needed for me as I found that configuring GrapheneOS was very straightforward. I guess the book could help people who are hesitant in switching to GrapheneOS in seeing that the OS is not hard to use.
Scott open the link I provided.
Feel free to peruse the amazon reviews, sorry I don't have time to dive into all the topics that are covered in the book :)
I might suggest "Why Privacy Matters" by Neil Richards. While not a technical book, it is still well worth reading. The focus is on why privacy is and should be important to everyone. I have suggested it to family and friends who wonder about some of my own antics regarding protecting my privacy. Further to that "Surveillance Capitalism" by Shoshana Zuboff is a good read as well.
ErnestThornhill This is extensive and precisely what I was looking for. Major thanks! 👍
I noticed the files are in PDFs, this is perfect as I drive for a living and can listen to them as I drive.
Do you (or anyone else) know of any good text to speech readers I can use? I usually use one called T2S, but I'm not sure if that is the best in terms of privacy and security.
Thanks.
I appreciate you guys and this community immensely. I received a strange email (to my professional email) yesterday that had my last name as the subject, and it was demanding a $950 ransom. They were claiming to have put some sort of RDF or RDP on my browser, and threaten to "Expose me". I obviously knew it was fake, but, I was disappointed that I had allowed my email to be leaked.
The information everyone has provided will definitely help me fortify my knowledge and avoid something like this happening again.
Much appreciated!
treenutz68 I'll definitely be checking it out. Thanks.
ahmadbaracat Bro, you are a straight G! That's a lot to go through, and I love it! I appreciate it 👍
fid02 Got it, I'll check it out. Thanks.
rbb Nice! It looks like I can get both of them in audiobook format and add them to the Voice app. Big plus! Now I don't have to listen to the robot voices reading me epubs and PDF files. Big thanks!
AffiliateAnthony I was disappointed that I had allowed my email to be leaked.
Don't be too harsh on yourself, it's still necessary for almost everyone to give away email addresses for online account creation (such as on this very forum).
I use aliases for this. You can do this easily on Tuta (where I am) or Proton Mail. Free alternatives are simplelogin (now owned by Proton) and Addy.
I'm going the extreme route and create a new alias email address for each account. It's just a one time effort and has two advantages:
AffiliateAnthony I noticed the files are in PDFs, this is perfect as I drive for a living and can listen to them as I drive.
Make sure to cut the top and button of PDFs out because any TTS engine would read you the header and footer (like chapter name or page number) all the time.
You can also listen to good podcasts and YouTube channels like The Hated One, Naomi Brockwell or Closed Network Privacy Podcast.
N1b Much appreciated! 👍 The header and footer tip is solid. I always wondered why it would constantly read the that information.

These two books arrived in the post today. A very big warning to my forum colleagues. These books are gigantic. Anyone who has difficulty reading longer texts will be totally overwhelmed. I can hardly believe that there are books this big.
