error messages from the fingerprint sensor remove the button. those texts could be displayed elsewhere too. it also disappears by itself

vvf69107 you are right it should not be hidden. That turd should be completely removed or made optional. I keep pressing that garbage button when holding my phone and walking or things press it in my pocket against me then i lost my entire user session and cache and am in owner. There is no need for that button when you can long press like everyone else said or press power 5x for emergency.

Guys @jackFang made a good point, let's please not argue about preferences in UI design. The question at hand was whether the button can be displayed again like in older versions, not whether we would like this button individually.

The answer from Carlos-Anso is on point. Even if that was a universally desired feature, it's an AOSP decision and nothing the GOS team would likely have the resources or focus to change and maintain. I think this thread can be closed (or marked solved?) as there's no change to be expected from the GOS dev team. Otherwise they can always chime in and correct me of course, I'm not speaking for the project.

vvf69107 you might want to direct your question to the AOSP devs. If they change it back, it will be back in GOS soon after.

UI elements and usage is subjective, there is no need to argue. We should have both options

Making any modification from AOSP takes time and effort. Can easily be unexpected consequences. Can often be far harder to make the changes to robustly achieve the desired outcome than initially apparent. Then have to maintain all changes going forward as AOSP itself changes. This last point is of critical importance as porting changes forward to new AOSP releases can delay security updates. What may be considered easy, reasonable and nice to have can easily have major unexpected negative impacts.

if someone grabs your thumb to unlock, an reliable "end session" button on second profiles or a similar placed "lock" button on the main profile could be a good last defence

I know the problem isn't "solved," but considering the fact that it's an upstream UI thing, it's unlikely that GrapheneOS developers will prioritize this button over other improvements. So less "solved" and more like "answered."

As for the disagreement about the button itself, I think we can respect that others may not share the same opinion as ourselves. I agree that that part of the discussion can be put to rest.
