I remember having a lot of trouble with cameras way back in the days of my first Graphene install (2+ years). I installed Open Camera and this solved most of it, but took a while to get working properly.

I now have Pixel 5 and I need something a bit more advanced than the GOS default camera. I installed Open Camera and the shutter is so slow, takes 5-10 seconds to take a shot. I changed to the Camera2API and that didn't improve it.

Any suggestions? If not I may just go with Google Camera with sandboxed GPS/GSF but I would much rather use OpenCamera and not have a single Google app installed.

Scatterbrain what exactly do you feel GOS cam lacks toward GCam? Not a criticism of your subjective needs just curious to help feedback into development if justified.

As far as OpenCamera having issues you haven't had previously, how long ago did you last test it as a great deal has changed not only in GOS but AOSP too, even between A11 to A12.

MetropleX Thanks for replying.

I couldn't actually get GOS camera to focus properly on Pixel 5, but Open Camera did. Maybe that was a temporary issue, so I could try it again, but the truth is I just don't like the GUI. In particular, in landscape mode (most of my pics) I couldn't easily zoom as it stays horizontal across the top of screen out of reach of thumb.
I was using Open Camera on my Pixel 3 until a few days ago, fine for years. Now on Pixel 5 (just moved to it)

I can go for Google Camera if needed (some nice features, like Portrait mode), but I detest the very thought of installing it! I could though, thanks to the great work done to sandbox stuff in GOS. My relative has Graphene with GCam and it works very nicely. I would sure rather stick with Open Camera, just can't work out why the ten seconds to take a shot! (I DID have that for a while when i first installed OC on my Pixel 3, but switching to Camera2API fixed it).

I am not sure what the possible max resolution of the cameras are and how it differs between Pixel 3 and Pixel 5, but maybe just the increased data storage when taking a photo might explain it?

Quick update - I have rebooted phone today due to some weird behaviour with app icons opening the wrong apps. quite weird, but I rebooted and it's not happened again (yet). I have just tested Open Camera quite aggressively and it's taking snappy shots now! Sorry, maybe it was temporary. can't think why, but it sure is working well now. Maybe close this thread and I can reopen if it comes back? thanks

Scatterbrain why not use google camera with network access disabled (if you need more features etc).

Note that we generally recommend against using a modded version of Google Camera. You can use the original Google Camera with just GSF and disable network permission for both if you want (GSF doesn't do anything by itself though).

The GrapheneOS Camera will get a Night mode through CameraX extensions when those are available for your device. That will be the case for the Pixel 6 soon enough; in fact, the extension is already exposed through the Camera2 API, but CameraX probably needs to be updated.

Wonderfall Thanks, yep if i were to use GCam it would be like that, with GSF and both denied network access. So far OpenCamera is doing ok. I may try Gcam just for the portrait mode as it would be useful for me (need to take animal pictures quite quickly, but for websites so that feature makes them pop quite nicely! I don't do night shots as, let's be honest, everyone should be in bed when it's dark anyway :)
