On Github, you asked for a FOSS build signed by the developers: this would be the dedicated Accrescent release. Dedicated in the sense that for most apps, the FOSS build, when there’s one, is F-droid exclusive, and that would require an additional effort from the devs.
Of course, if this version also ends up on Github (FOSS signed by the devs), it wouldn’t be that dedicated any more.
I appreciate the fact that Organic Maps is available on Accrescent; that’s very good for Accrescent's promotion. That being said, there could be other reasons as to why it is available on it, and I have no reason to think it’s because Organic Maps and Accrescent devs are on the same wavelength.
One of the main devs asked you: ‘What are the benefits of supporting that build?’
As a consequence you had to explain the rationale behind the request.
And then, you’ve been told to simply use Obtainium to auto-update from Github: alright, F-droid-flavoured, but what’s the point of Accrescent then? Why not simply use Github for everything and consider we have reached the pinnacle of APKs distribution?
Why did GOS devs endorsed Accrescent and not Obtainium? Surely, because these two apps don’t share the exact same philosophy.
As you know, Accrescent will remain very niche in the foreseeable future, and this niche doesn’t like Google proprietary libraries in its apps. This seems already quite inconsistent. If it’s a matter of time and workload, I’ve no issue. But the revealing part is the last response on Github.
